Super hero packing heat?? what! nonsense!?!
Question: I read in my newspaper today that captain america will be packing heat for now own( in other words he will be carrying a gun on his belt) and it is not a laser gun, it contains bullets. tell me first of all since when does a SUPER hero need a gun? and why of all the hero does it have to be Captain America?? what message are they trying to send? I grew up with captain america, batman, superman, wonder woman and the justice league. and this is just not right. every thug in america carries guns but superheros have super powers they don't need bullets, you remember the song: when captain america throw his mighty sheilds.... well now they have to change it to : when captain america shoots his ak47.... next they will be giving wonder woman pepper spray. and super man he is already faster than a speeding bullet what weapon will he carry??. giving captain america a gun is lame, they are turning him into a sissy. haven't they even heard of gun control. what are your thoughts? I say lets protest

I pretty much agree with you, and I think it is a shame that Marvel will allow their editors to buy scripts from writers who don't understand the characters they are writing about. The hack who is currently writing the Captain America series recently "killed" Captain America, and has dropped hints that someone other than Steve Rogers might take over as Captain America. I certainly can't imagine Steve Rogers carrying a gun, but I also can't imagine anyone else acting as Captain America on a permanent basis other than Steve Rogers.
I'm boycotting the Captain America series until such time as the current writer leaves and someone with more talent and a sense of the character cleans up an accumulation of stunts and poor ideas, and starts producing some stories I would actually like to read.
I think this sort of nonsense is a sign of desperation on Marvel's part. DC has slowly but steadily been claiming a bigger share of the market, and Marvel is marketing short-term sensationalism instead of doing its real job.

I've been trying to formulate a good response to this "question" (more of a rant than a question really), and I would have to kind of agree with the concept that having a superhero pack heat is lame at times. But I strongly disagree with the comments that every thug in america carries guns: many carry knives, bats, and really, even their fists qualify as deadly weapons. As to the issue of gun control, have you ever known of a criminal (someone who by their very definition violates the law) to follow something as difficult to enforce as gun control laws. They're going to break the law anyways, right? Just something to think about.
They are selling out to what's "hot" right now. They think that the shock value of having The Punisher take up the mantle of Captain America will increase sells of the book. People will grow tired of this very fast and Marvel will place Steve Rogers back in role like he belongs. I've seen this gimmick too many times before. The heat-packing Cap sucks, but it will not last.
