What is the differance between Yaoi and Yuri?!

Question: i just really want to know...

Answers: i just really want to know...

Everyone gave the short answer, which is correct. I just wanted to give a long one. :P

Yaoi originally comes from a Japanese phrase, "Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi". It means, "no climax, no punch line, no meaning". However, by the time this phrase comes out, the most popular genre is gay love, which is.... you know, boy x boy. So it slowly became attached and later officially used (especially in US) to refer to gay love. And yaoi-genred stories have gay sex in them.

Yuri originally is part of yaoi, but more towards lesbian relationship. It's called "yuri" because at that time, many female characters involved was named Yuri (or Yuriko, whatever it is). Later, yuri is used to refer to lesbian love, and also to differ from yaoi. Like yaoi, yuri has sex in it.
