How come no one has ever portrayed Superman for how truly powerful he is?!

Because Superman was one of, if not, the first superhero, he was endowed with all sorts of powers. Initially, this attracted readers, so they gave him more powers, flight, super cold breath, super VENTRILOQUISM!!!! As more and more heroes hit the scene, it was found, as in real life, less is often more interesting. There just isn't much conflict in stories about a guy who can't be hurt by anything but rare to find Kryptonite and even more rare powerful magic. So, to try and keep things interesting, Superman hasn't been making the best use of his powers. Of course, if supes used his super speed, flight ability, and heat vision against Doomsday, Doomsday never would have laid a hand on him. Supes could knock Doomsday into orbit from a distance, then send him into the Sun. The Kryptonite man would have been a better choice to kill the Man of Steel.
maybe so there could be a conflict and there would be something to write about. dunno haha
That really is the problem with Superman as a character. He has so many ridiculously strong powers and so few weaknesses (both of which are minor) that pretty much nothing should be able to hurt him.
on one of the JLU episodes, when Superman fights Darkside he unleashes his full strength and power.
