They're not really "anime music" so much as music used for anime.

The companies hire actual bands and contract themselves a theme song either out of an existing one or a new one made for the series, but it's still an actual song nonetheless.

I think the term you're looking for is Japanese music.

But then, these two categories are subsets of a ginormous medium known as music, so you can't objectively compare the two.

There are great bands in all sides of the spectrum.

Me too.... Well.... It's because I have not listen to American music for some time and watch animes 24/7..... The best one is Chemistry (the one who sang 'Wings of Words' from Gundam Seed Destiny)...

Yeah I 100% agree. Japanese anime music is all I listen too at the moment. I Love J-rock especially, Nightmare, Maximum the hormone, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Gackt etc and J-pop singers like Mika Nakashima, Utada Hikaru and UVERworld. I still like some American music though like Evanescence and Linkin park. =D

I rarely listen to American music, but I won't say that anime music is "better." It's all personal preference. Besides, a lot of good anime music is influenced by American music. Cowboy Bebop, anyone?
