Where does the name for the anime Bleach come from?!

Question: Why is it called bleach when the show has nothing to do with the laundry chemical?

Answers: Why is it called bleach when the show has nothing to do with the laundry chemical?

It's a symbolic thing as well as an in-series reference.

The most superficial reason is because of Ichigo's hair. People don't think it's his natural hair color and think he bleached it.

The more in-depth reason is because of the job of the shinigami: to purify souls.

Just like bleach cleans, shinigami purify the souls of hollows and clean up the afterlife; hence, konso.

That's the gist of it.

I'm not really sure, I do remember something about Ichigo's hair being bleached orange?

I agree with the second person, but I disagree it has anything to do with Ichigo's hair, that sounds too shallow.

well it does sort of have to do with hair from one theory ive heard. it looks like a bad bleach job. trying to dye it blonde but it turnsout orange. purifying souls would make more sense, at least would make it sound like a more respectable reason for such a random name.

It has nothing to do with cleansing or turning white.

It's simply that the manga author's favorite band is Nirvana, and he named it after one of their songs.
