Bebop is a classic but if you hate westerns or western type shows maybe it isn't for you. Also some animes/manga don't seem interesting until your tastes mature a bit.

cowboy bebop wasnt that good when i watched the first 2-3 years ago

Cowboy Bebop is considered to be a "classic" series by many western otaku. It's not for everyone, though.

The series has lots of action, yes, but much of the choreography is martial-arts (Jeet Kune Do in particular), with some space dogfights, and (strangely enough) minimal gunplay. Also, the actual fight scenes are scattered across episodes -- some episodes will have a lot of action, some a little, and some none at all.

Also, the plot is pretty complex, as is the backstory. There's a lot of plot elements in small details (such as counting the number of times Faye shot after the reloading scene), though most of that is not entirely necessary for enjoyment of the series. Also, the backstory itself, and even at times the main plot, is obscured by the episodic nature of the series.

I wouldn't say that there are "crap episodes" that are "pointless" -- I'd say that the "main" plot is interleaved with various subplots (many exposing either a piece of an individual character's backstory, or a piece of the backstory of the setting itself), and that this episodic nature is necessary to give the level of detail about the world and characters in only 26 episodes, without making it boring by making each story a contiguous vignette.

As for the animation: the show was done in 1998, and at the time, it was near the top of animation technology. It was the creation of Sunrise, which is well known, and perhaps second only to Gainax. It was one of the first anime to use computer graphics, and at the time it was considered pretty state-of-the-art. It looks like crap now, of course.

All in all, many compare it to M*A*S*H -- undeniably well-executed, but for some people it simply isn't their cup of tea.

there are only 5 episodes that fall into what I call the main storyline between spike and vicious. the rest is very entertaining slice of life stuff.

personally i love all the characters, the acting, the art style, and just about everything there is to the series. it is my favorite that is out there.

One thing you need to know.........there is no anime like it. Don't be so shallow as to judge such an amazing show by graphics alone, besides, it's visuals are considered top notch even today, note the amazing ace combat scenes and the gunplay (especially in the movie, which I STRONGLY recommend you see).

i love it cuz guns and humor and spaceships and stuff. I hate mash to death and then to death again i hate mash i hate it hate hate hate hate mash hate i dont know how you can compare the two but whatever i hate mash
