Answers: I want to know who the first comic book character was. Some say Superman some say Capton America? Which is already?

your all wrong the first comic book charecter was in 1896's The Yellow Kid, considered the 1st comic strip Richard Felton Outcault's The Yellow Kid. In June, 1938, Superman came out durring the golden age

captin america didn't come out till the silver age

it was superman. he was the first superhero at least in a comic book.

It was Batman..

your right it was captan america with the green lantern following close after

In June 1938, Action Comics #1 came out, featuring a man in a red and blue costume lifting a car over his head! This was Superman, the very first comic character to have powers far beyond a normal human being. Sure, Flash Gordon and The Shadow were neat, but they couldn't lift a car over their heads and throw it at someone! Nor could they let bullets bounce off their chests, or run faster than a train, or leap over tall buildings in a single bound. To say the least, Superman was a fitting name. Batman came out in 1939, a year after Superman.

Comic books, as we know them, originally consisted of 68 pages of reprinted newspaper strips, and monthly publication of such a comic began in 1934; the reprints were usually doled at in two to four page installments. The first comic book to feature original stories (material that had not been printed before) began in 1935 and the company that printed that book ('New Comics') eventually became DC comics. The original characters didn't really catch on with readers until 'Action Comics' came along in 1938 and introduced Superman (a character who had been rejected by virtually every newspaper comics syndicate in America and almost every comic book publisher). Superman was a hit and made the publication of other such characters possible, since Superman had proved their was an audience for "mystery men."

So it is already what you wanted to know, or do you really want to know about the Yellow Kid, the first comics character who the general public would have recognize, and who had collections of his material reprint in a format that was more-or-less like a comic book?

For first costumed super hero, though technically not a comic book, was the Phantom. There were other heroes before him probably, but he started that entire costume thing with the spandex and such. 1936
