Answers: Can the family understand Stewie? I mean, at times, it seems like they can, while other times (Namely regarding his comments on the murder of Lois) they do not seem able to.

Only Brian can. When Lois talks to Stewie she's just responding to him as if he's talking baby talk.

The family interact with Stewie but can't hear him talk.

And for the record Stewie is the best TV character ever!

yeah i noticed that too...
i watched an episode last night and lois said to stewie "thats not a nice thing to say stewie"...but then later on nobody responds...so im guessing that they can hear him (sometimes)

in the older episodes i dont think so, but in the newer ones they do, bc there is a time where louis and peter are talking on the phone to chris then stewie gets on another line than meg does, and when meg does chris lousi and peter get off and stewie holds a forced convo with meg...

I was under the impression that only Brian could understand exactly what he was saying. If he's having one of his rampages Lois can't understand what he's saying, but she can tell he's upset..
