Armor of Sand

Like any transformation, the jutsu can be broken by identifying and attacking the animal, thus dispelling the transformation. This jutsu is often followed by the Double Piercing Fang.

Black Secret Technique Machine One Shot

To perform this jutsu, Kankuro's opponent must be trapped in the torso of Kuroari. After this is accomplished, Karasu separates into about eight components, each with a sharp blade. Kankuro guides the separate pieces into slits in Kuroari's torso, impaling the victim inside.

Body Flicker Technique

This jutsu is a high-speed movement technique, allowing a ninja to move short distances at an almost untraceable speed. To an observer, it appears as if the user has teleported. A puff of smoke is occasionally used to disguise the user's movements. It is accomplished by using chakra to temporarily boost the user's reflexes. The amount of chakra required depends on the overall distance between the user and their intended destination.

Body Replacement Technique

This jutsu lets the user quickly switch places with another nearby object, such as a plant (normally a section of a log), an animal, or even another person within reach, leaving the opponent open to a counter-attack. Explosive tags can be attached to the replacement for an added surprise. Fundamentally, all ninja know this technique. The anime has a number of other objects being used for this jutsu, such as a boulder, mud, a scarecrow, and even a large rolled-up carpet. These items are usually nowhere in sight, suggesting that they are merely gags meant to lighten up the situation and not an actual part of the jutsu. Additionally, the normal practice of switching places with a section of log is done in several places that have no such thing anywhere nearby.

This jutsu allows the user to absorb the physical and spiritual energy of an opponent. The user doesn't have to actually touch the opponent, since it is also possible to use it through other media, as Jirobo did with his Earth Release Barrier: Dungeon Chamber of Nothingness. The only necessary condition is some medium through which chakra can be channeled.
The Chakra Absorption Technique is not truly considered a jutsu since it has never been given an entry in any of the databooks, but more of a special ability; however, it is not considered a kekkei genkai ability, either.

This jutsu is said to be Kakashi's only original technique, though he now uses an S-ranked version known as the Lightning Blade. He created it around the time he was promoted to Jonin, and later taught it to Sasuke. At the time of creation, Kakashi attempted to perfect the Rasengan by intergrating his own lightning-based jutsu into it. He was unable to do so, however, and his end result was the Chidori. This jutsu channels a large amount of chakra into the user's arm. The amount of chakra is so great that it becomes visible to the naked eye. It uses lightning nature manipulation. This technique makes a loud noise similar to many birds chirping, hence the name (if the user is not in motion, it merely makes an electric crackling sound). Once the technique is completed, the user charges forward and stabs their enemy with it. The amount of thrust combined with the large concentration of chakra allows the user to stab through almost anything; as such it is usually fatal to the enemy. This technique is classified as an assassination technique because of the speed at which it is performed, despite the loud noise it produces.
This jutsu has a major drawback, however. The speed at which the attack must be done, combined with the fact that the user must run in a straight line, causes a tunnel vision-like effect for the user. This allows their enemy to easily counter the attack, making it a potentially lethal move for the user. Though this drawback would seem to make learning the technique fairly pointless, Sasuke and Kakashi are able to avoid the drawback because of their Sharingan eyes, which take in every detail regardless of how fast the user is moving. As an additional drawback, the large amount of chakra required limits its use to a few times a day (two for Sasuke, four for Kakashi). Sasuke can manage one more than normal with the use of his cursed seal. Should the user attempt to go beyond their limit, all of their chakra will be drained and their very life force could go along with it, killing them. An additional problem, though not necessarily a debilitating one, is the fact that the large amount of chakra can also injure the user's hand if they put too much force into the attack. Sasuke does this while battling his brother, Itachi, causing some of the skin to peel from his hand and leaving it slightly smoldering after the attack was finished.
In real history, Chidori was the name of katana owned by famous samurai Dousetsu Tachibana. The legend says that one day Dousetsu was nearly hit by a lightning bolt while taking shelter from rain under a tree. He escaped by using his katana, Chidori, to split the lightning in half. Thereafter the name of the katana was changed to Raikiri (雷切), in this context meaning "lightning cutter". Chidori also means plover.

A variation on a regular Chidori developed by Sasuke Uchiha during his two-and-a-half year training with Orochimaru, this jutsu allows the user to generate electrically charged chakra from his body, instead of just concentrating it in his hand. Because it is channeled throughout his entire body and not concentrated, the electricity will only cause temporary paralysis instead of killing an opponent. This jutsu allows a ninja to take a cloak or a piece of cloth and blend into an object, making them invisible. Konohamaru uses this technique constantly in the beginning of the Naruto series to try and fool Naruto Uzumaki, but uses poor disguises (square rocks with eyeholes, cloaks that are incorrectly patterned or the wrong way around, or simply not covering himself completely), thus betraying the illusion. In the anime, Naruto has been somewhat practical at using this jutsu a couple of times.

By releasing chakra that has been stored up for a relatively long period of time in the seal on her forehead with Shadow Seal: Release, Tsunade is able to heal all her wounds almost instantaneously, regardless of the severity of the injuries. She can even regrow lost organs and limbs if necessary. Additionally, she continues to heal at an accelerated rate for the duration of the jutsu. Unfortunately, this technique has a drawback; using it speeds up cell division, and it shortens her life span. It is also demonstrated that it takes a lot of chakra- after a fairly short period of time, this jutsu and others Tsunade is maintaining (such as the transformation technique that she uses to disguise her age) are dispelled and she is unable to continue to fight.

This jutsu uses sand to grab the opponent and cover their entire body. This skill is primarily utilized for rendering an opponent immobile, but can kill the opponent by suffocation or by being followed with the Desert Funeral, which crushes them.
It should be noted that Gaara crushed Rock Lee's left arm and leg during their battle in the Chunin Exams, and crushed Deidara's arm in the Rescue Gaara Arc, with just Desert Coffin, implying that Desert Coffin itself has its own crushing effect. However, Gaara makes the hand motion that he typically makes when using Desert Funeral in this particular instance.

Utilizing a large amount of chakra, a large ball of flame is produced when the user exhales in a style similar to fire breathing. The user places one hand close to the mouth, igniting the air by mixing the breath with the chakra in the hand. Since Kakashi Hatake is able to use the technique without taking off his mask, it can be assumed that the fireball does not originate from inside the mouth. Using the power gained through the level 2 form of his Cursed Seal of Heaven, the Chidori that Sasuke Uchiha was taught to use as a "blade" to protect his comrades is warped into a dark version of itself that is used to sever his ties with them. This jutsu was created by Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage and the reason behind his nickname, "The Yellow Flash of Konoha" (木ノ葉の黄色い閃光 Konoha no Kīroi Senkō?). It allows the user to move over large distances with ultra-high speed. Although it is often compared with the Body Flicker Technique, the speed of this jutsu is much greater. In principle, it is similar to the Summoning Technique, but instead of bringing something to users, it sends them somewhere. Additionally, it makes no noise and produces no puff of smoke, allowing the user to appear behind someone unnoticed.
To activate this jutsu, the user needs a special seal or "jutsu formula" (術式 jutsu-shiki?) to mark the destination. After this is done, the user can almost instantaneously transport himself to that location. Minato applied the formula in advance to weapons such as kunai. It is also possible to leave a formula in an area touched by the user.
This technique is one of the reasons for Konoha's victory in the Iwa-Konoha Ninja War. After having his subordinates toss marked kunai randomly into the enemy ranks, the Fourth used the technique to appear within their ranks and slaughter them one by one before they could even react.
The Japanese name Hiraishin is also the phonic of the Japanese word 避雷針, which means lightning rod.

This technique arms Orochimaru with the Kusanagi (草薙, "Grass Halberd") of Japanese legend. To retrieve it, Orochimaru opens his mouth and a snake comes out. The snake then opens its mouth and produces the Kusanagi. The sword can be produced either handle or blade-first, allowing Orochimaru to wield it from his mouth if necessary. The sword can cut through almost any object, its blade can extend to many times its normal length, and it can be controlled remotely by Orochimaru.
The sword is depicted differently in the anime and manga. In the anime, it is a guardless, double-edged jian, while it is depicted more like an ordinary katana in the manga.
Sasuke Uchiha also has a Kusanagi sword, which he amplifies with his Chidori Current. Sasuke's sword, however, is not the same legendary sword. Sasuke's Kusanagi resembles a chokuto in a shirasaya (a wooden sheath designed to conceal or store a blade for a long time). Additionally, Sasuke carries his Kusanagi rather than summoning it, so he can draw the sword very quickly. Lastly, his Kusanagi doesn't seem to stretch like the real version does.
In the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series, Orochimaru can summon more than one Kusanagi blade and control them using his chakra.

Manipulating Attack Blades
This jutsu allows the user to control and manipulate blades with chakra in a manner similar to the Puppet Technique.
Manipulating Windmill Triple Blades
Utilizing the abilities of the Sharingan, Sasuke is able to control shuriken that have wire cords attached to them (two held with the hands and one with the mouth) and manipulate their paths to tie an opponent to a nearby large object, binding them. If there is no object, the shuriken will impale the opponent.
Mind Body Disturbance Technique
This jutsu is a variation on the Mind Body Switch Technique. Instead of transferring the user's consciousness, this jutsu sends a spirit of confusion into a target, causing them to attack their allies.
Mind Body Switch Technique
This jutsu allows the user to send their mind into a target's body (even an animal's), supplanting the target's mind with their own.
Multi-Size Technique

This jutsu is a multi-purpose medical technique used by medic-nin to heal wounds and perform surgery.
Needle Guardian
Using this jutsu, Jiraiya can grow and harden his spiked hair to form a shield around him, protecting against most physical attacks and possibly injuring the attacker.
Partial Multi-Size Technique
This is a secret jutsu passed down in the Akimichi clan. It is similar in practice to the Multi-Size Technique, but allows a user to increase the size of any body part.
Poison Extraction Technique
This ornate jutsu uses chakra to literally pull foreign materials from someone's body, no doubt requiring precise control on the user's part to avoid causing further internal injuries to their patient.
Prison Sand Burial
Using this jutsu, Gaara can quickly loosen the ground below his opponent and cause them sink beneath hundreds of meters of sand. Gaara then compresses the sand to such an extent that his opponent is unable to even move a finger. Gaara uses the technique without naming it. The name is given in the second databook.
Projectile Weapons
In order to store and use items or weapons that the user would never be capable of carrying normally, the user can keep them contained within summoning scrolls. Puppets commonly have such scrolls attached to hidden compartments to produce extra arms and other similar features. Like the Summoning Technique, a small donation of blood is sometimes required to summon the items.
Projection Technique
Using this jutsu, the user can project their voice from various points in a specific area in a manner similar to ventriloquism. The user does not need to speak to transmit the sound, so tracking them by sound is impossible. Those in the area where the voice is being projected at will hear a resonating echo, as well as a more ominous undertone.
Puppet Technique
This jutsu uses strings of chakra from the user's fingers to control puppets like marionettes. Those who can effectively use this ability are rare, but once mastered the user can hide in a safe location while his puppet does the work for him. Since puppets are usually equipped with an array of often-fatal instruments, fighting a puppet is much more dangerous than fighting a human.
Quicksand in the Style of a Waterfall
This jutsu creates a massive amount of sand and sends it towards an opponent in the form of a wave, covering and engulfing them in an ocean of sand. In addition to the wave effect of the jutsu, Gaara can control the sand, allowing him to attack his opponent while they attempt to evade the wave. This appears to be the only one of Gaara's moves that requires hand seals, and in practice is virtually unavoidable. Once completed, it can cover an entire forest in sand. The follow up move is Desert Imperial Funeral, which compresses all the sand present, crushing the opponent.

Red Secret Technique: Performance of a Hundred Puppets
To start this jutsu, Sasori removes a summoning scroll from his back. He then opens his right chest compartment to emit one hundred chakra strings, which reach into the scroll. From the scroll, one hundred human puppets emerge, each one a defeated and converted opponent of Sasori. Sasori claims that he brought down an entire nation with this jutsu.
Rope Escape Technique
A basic jutsu taught at the Konoha Ninja Academy, this jutsu allows a ninja to free themselves if they have been tied up.
Sand Clone
This jutsu creates a clone of the user out of sand. Perhaps the most versatile of all clones, this variant does not disperse when hit. When attacked, the affected area turns back into sand and snags the opponent. Major damage must be caused to actually disperse the clone (destroying its head, for instance); otherwise, it can simply reform.
Sand Drizzle
This jutsu is an alternative to Gaara's Desert Coffin; it gathers sand in the air and then targets the opponent from above, covering them in a rain of sand.
Sand Shuriken
Once Gaara begins transforming into Shukaku, he can throw shuriken made from sand. Unlike regular shuriken, these are merely fast-moving balls of sand that cause blunt trauma, not actual wounds. They are thrown much faster than regular shuriken; therefore, the pain caused can be considerable.
Secret Healing Wound Destruction
Kabuto can concentrate his chakra to a prepared area on his body and begin regenerating the moment the targeted area becomes damaged. Unlike normal healing, this can actually restore dead cells.
Sexy Technique
This is simply a Transformation Technique used to transform the user into a beautiful, nude woman (or a woman in a bathing suit, as seen in episode 177 and the Naruto video games). Naruto uses it to distract his instructors, sometimes leading to an exaggerated nosebleed by the victim, and it is indeed annoyingly effective; even the Third Hokage swooned when Naruto used it on him. Naruto was forced to use this jutsu in order to receive training from Jiraiya. A variant of this technique is the Harem Technique, which uses varying numbers of shadow clones in combination with the technique to produce multiple clones of a nude woman.
Sexy: Double Knockout Girls Technique
This is Konohamaru's variation of the Harem Technique. He first creates a shadow clone and they both transform into two nude women in a very suggestive pose.
Sexy: Double Knockout Guys Technique
This is a variation of the Double Knockout Girls Technique made exclusively for girls who mock the first version. Konohamaru first creates a shadow clone and they both transform into two nude men in a very suggestive pose. The first time he used it on Sakura Haruno, he used Sasuke's and Sai's likenesses, gaining a perverted reaction from the kunoichi.
Shadow Clone Technique
Similar to the Clone Technique, this jutsu creates clones of the user. Unlike the Clone Technique, these clones are actual copies, not illusions. The user's chakra is evenly distributed among every clone, giving each clone an equal fraction of the user's overall power. The clones are capable of performing jutsu on their own and can even bleed, but will usually disperse after one or two solid blows. They can also disperse on their own. Unlike other clones, they can't be detected by the Byakugan because the clones have the exact same amount of chakra and aren't made from any other substance, making them indistinguishable from the actual person.
Shadow Imitation Technique

Shadow Neck Bind Technique
After capturing an opponent with the Shadow Imitation Technique, the user can then further extend their shadow up to the target's throat in the shape of a hand, which chokes them to death. However, with an incredible amount of strength, the target can force the shadow hand off, as demonstrated in Shikamaru's fight with Tayuya, and his the Legendary Stupid Brothers, Fujin and Rajin.
Shadow Sewing
The user of this jutsu can extend their shadow and create multiple tangible tendrils for various purposes. Such purposes can include using them as stabbing weapons, rope for binding an opponent, or extra appendages for throwing weapons.
It can also be used simultaneously with Shadow Imitation Technique, so it is possible to split the shadow and use both jutsus at the same time.
Shadow Shuriken Technique
The user of this technique throws multiple large shuriken in such a way that the first shuriken hides the subsequent ones by blocking the line of sight. To the target, it appears as if only one shuriken was thrown.
Shadow Summoning Technique
After capturing a target with the Shadow Imitation Technique, the user summons shadowy tendrils from their opponent's body, controlling them in the same manner as Shadow Sewing, but from the opponent's body instead of the user's.
Shapeshifting Technique
This jutsu is used to perfectly clone a willing target by sacrificing another person. To perform the jutsu, the intended target must give up a fair portion of their chakra to create the duplicate (in its debut, the leader asked for thirty percent), after which the sacrificial body morphs into an exact clone of the target. The target is so perfectly cloned that every aspect of them will be copied, even kekkei genkai and weapons the target is carrying. The clone's abilities are proportionate to, and limited by, the amount of chakra given to it by the original. This makes the clone unable to use techniques that require large amounts of chakra to perform. The clone can either act autonomously or be controlled by the original. Once the sacrificial body dies, the Shapeshifting Technique will end and the person used will be revealed.
Shield of Chakra
A technique used by puppet masters, this jutsu creates a shield using chakra emitted from panels that are released from a puppet's arms. This chakra shield can protect the user from several hazardous attacks; however, enough clotting force (such as Iron Sand) can clog up the puppet's arm joints and render the shield useless.
Shield of Sand
This jutsu causes sand to automatically surround and protect Gaara from harm, even if it's self-inflicted, regardless of whether or not he wants it to. The shield is capable of withstanding considerably strong attacks and projectiles, and can be hardened to a point where it's stronger than steel. It can be defeated by avoiding it completely with extremely high-speed attacks, or merely overcoming the shield with incredible brute force. The anime hints that a human soul must be imbued in the sand to perform this jutsu. The jutsu remains and bounds to its user forever.
Shuriken From All Directions
Once Naruto clones himself using his Shadow Clone Technique, he and his clones throw a large number of shuriken from all angles at their opponent. It is similar in practice to the Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique used by the Third Hokage during his fight with Orochimaru.
Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique
A modification of the Shadow Clone Technique, the user throws one shuriken at the victim and then uses this jutsu to create multiple copies of the shuriken to make the attack more powerful.
Shuriken Shadow Imitation Technique
By channeling his chakra into Asuma Sarutobi's trench knives, Shikamaru can use them to pin his opponent's shadow to the ground, immobilizing his opponent. The technique doesn't require any further effort on Shikamaru's part to maintain, but whether or not it has a time limit is unclear. With the opponent pinned, Shikamaru can then use his regular Shadow Imitation Technique to control them at his leisure.
Soft Physique Modification
Originally developed for spying activities, this technique can be done after some surgery and actual body modification. The user dislocates their joints then controls their softened body with chakra, allowing them to stretch and twist any part of their body at any angle, elongating and even coiling around their opponent. This can also be used to make the user's body more malleable and snakelike. Orochimaru can do this without surgical modification thanks to his various forbidden jutsu. In addition, his version allows him to stretch his body parts well beyond their normal length.
Sphere of Sand
Gaara surrounds himself entirely in a protective orb of sand to guard against attacks. He then uses Third Eye to watch his opponents' movements and control sand as necessary to battle them. In addition to being extremely dense, this sand-sphere can form spikes from its surface to spear any would-be attacker who thinks that their own physical strength will be enough to penetrate it. Gaara can also use this technique to shield himself from his opponent long enough to perform his transformation into Shukaku, as demonstrated in his match against Sasuke Uchiha in the Chunin Exam.
Spider Bind
After gathering his spider webbing into his mouth, Kidomaru spits it out into a wide web pattern. This web can envelop his foes and tie them down to a nearby surface. This stickiness is caused by him mixing his chakra with his body fluid, making the web stronger and more refined than steel. The technique is so refined that even after having left his body, his chakra will continue to flow through the thread to hold his opponent in place.
Spider Cocoon
This technique makes a cocoon of web around the opponent, immobilizing and leaving them open for other attacks.
Spider Sticking Spit
Emitting a stream of webbing from his mouth, Kidomaru will grab onto a nearby opponent then swing them around in a circle.
Spider Sticky Gold
Unlike Kidomaru's binding webs, this technique produces a liquid that hardens into a golden metal. As well as being very strong, the metal is impervious to chakra. Kidomaru can form the metal into various shapes to use against his opponents, as well as quickly forming a protective shell over his body by excreting it from his pores.
Spider War Bow: Terrible Split
When in his level two cursed seal form, Kidomaru expels Spider Sticky Gold from his mouth and gathers it to form a large war bow. He will then open his third eye on his forehead to increase his accuracy. Kidomaru can use basic attacks with the arrow or refine his attacks to meet specific demands, such as a strand of his web to guide it or different arrowheads to change speed or power.
Spider Web Area
If Kidomaru is in enemy territory and needs to rest while still remaining on guard, he can lay spider thread throughout the surrounding area. Most ninja will recognize the thread as common spider web; however, this thread runs all the way back to a finger on Kidomaru's hand. Slight movement against a webbing thread will pull it all the way back to Kidomaru's finger and alert him to the enemy's presence.
Spider Web Flower
After gathering his spider thread into his mouth, Kidomaru will spit net-like cobwebs of the thread at his target. These nets will fly through the air, and upon hitting an opponent, will stick and bind the target to any nearby surface.
Spider Web Unfold
After gathering his spider thread into a ball in his hands, Kidomaru releases it in the form of a large spider web to catch his opponent. Once the target touches the thread, its stickiness will hold them in place.
Summoning: Earth Release: Tracking Fang Technique
This jutsu allows Kakashi to summon his own personal Ninken to perform special tasks. With this technique, the dogs can travel through the ground following the scent of their target, emerging when the target is found and holding them in place.
Summoning: Impure World Resurrection
This forbidden summoning technique allows the user to revive the dead. The user must first sacrifice a living human in order to tie the deceased person's soul to the world (unlike the normal summoning technique, which only requires some of the user's blood). The sacrificed body is then surrounded with dirt and dust that compacts into the shape of the summoned soul's original body. The resurrected person then rises from the ground in a wooden coffin. At first, the person appears pale and dirty, as most undead are portrayed. The user has to restore their appearance through a special seal.
Summoning: Rashomon
This summoning creates a demonic form of the main gate of old Kyoto which is capable of blocking almost any attack. It was previously believed that two people were required to summon it, as both Sakon and Ukon did; however, Orochimaru has been able to summon three of these gates by himself with his Triple Rashomon. To do so, he simply uses both hands, instead of one as is common in a summoning.
Summoning: Toad Mouth Bind
This jutsu encloses the surrounding area with the esophagus of a great, fire-breathing toad from Mount Myoboku: Rock Lodging (妙木山?岩宿 Myōboku-san: Iwayado?). Jiraiya can then control the esophagus, causing it to expand, contract, or grow in whatever direction he wishes. In a filler arc, Jiraiya uses a variation of this jutsu when he summons an able-bodied toad's stomach to protect himself and Naruto from Kagero's Ephemeral Vengeance.
Summoning Technique
The basic form of all summoning techniques, this jutsu requires a contract made with blood, hand seals, and the user's blood to summon an animal from another dimension. As an alternative to the normal hand seals, the same contract that appears on the ground during the summoning can be drawn by hand and activated, producing the same result. The type of animal summoned is determined by the contract. The blood is used as a signature to make the contract, which can be written on a scroll or tattoo. Once summoned, the animal can perform a task or help the user in battle.
The summon usually is subservient to the summoner; however, the more powerful summons, such as Gamabunta and Manda, demand respect and loyalty from their summoners. Manda even demands hundreds of live human sacrifices.
In addition to summoning animals, this jutsu can be used to summon weapons sealed away in a scroll of sorts, providing the user with more space to store weapons and less weight when traveling on extended missions.
Super Beasts Imitation Picture
With this technique, Sai can use his brush and scroll to give life to the pictures he draws, also giving them an increased size and the ability to move. This jutsu allows him to create birds for flight and lion-like creatures to attack.
Super Multi-Size Technique
This jutsu allows an Akimichi clan member to evenly increase the size of every body part, effectively transforming themselves into giants. It also increases the size of anything they might happen to be wearing or holding.
Technique Neutralize
This jutsu cancels or impedes the occurring of the opponent's technique. It uses the same amount of chakra as the jutsu it intends to cancel.
Telescope Technique
With this technique, one is able to view a distant location through the use of a clairvoyant crystal ball.
Three Buddhist Treasures Vacuum Destruction
This jutsu is performed by three puppets that were created by Monzaemon Chikamatsu. Three of the ten Chikamatsu puppets come together to form a pyramid. After forming a hand seal, a vortex will open in the space between their bodies, sucking in everything in range. The puppets remain unaffected. The force of the vortex shatters anything drawn into it into millions of pieces.
Third Eye
This jutsu creates a floating eyeball out of sand that is connected to Gaara's optic nerves. Gaara can control the size of the eye depending on its use. Its main purpose is spying, since it can form and disperse in any location on command.
Transformation Technique
This jutsu allows the user to assume the appearance of another person, animal, or object. This is one of the basic jutsu taught at the Konoha Ninja Academy. Fundamentally, all ninja know this jutsu.
Triple Rashomon
This jutsu is an advanced version of the Summoning: Rashomon used by Orochimaru. It creates three demonic forms of the main gate of old Kyoto, instead of just one. Additionally, Orochimaru is able to summon them without the aid of another individual by using both hands for the summon.
Twin Snakes Mutual Death Technique
This forbidden jutsu is a murder-suicide attack – killing both the user and the target. The user makes a one-handed seal with both their hand and the intended victim's. Two snakes are then summoned from the user's sleeve, biting both their wrists and killing them by deadly venom.
In Naruto: Narutimate Hero 3, when Anko performs this jutsu, two summoned snakes wrap themselves around her and her victim and lock themselves in that position by biting each others' necks. The snakes then detonate, causing major damage to Anko's opponent. For gameplay reasons, however, Anko is left unharmed.
Uzumaki Naruto Combo
This jutsu is Naruto's version of Sasuke Uchiha's Lion Combo, which he uses to defeat Kiba Inuzuka in the Chunin exam. Naruto uses his Shadow Clone Technique to make up for his lack of speed. In its debut, he makes four clones, which shout "U!" "Zu!" "Ma!" "Ki!" as they kick the opponent into the air, and the real Naruto finishes the combo with "Naruto Rendan!" and a kick from above. In the English dub, the corresponding shouts are "Na", "Ru", "To", "Uzumaki Barrage!" On each occasion Naruto has used this technique, he has performed it differently. Though Naruto's version of the technique is no more effective than Sasuke's, his is ranked higher due to his use of shadow clones.
Uzumaki Naruto Two Thousand Combo
This jutsu was made by Naruto to fight against the transformed Gaara. Basically, it is the same as the Uzumaki Naruto Combo, only 400 times larger. 1,999 shadow clones are formed, making 2,000 Narutos combined. Like the original, the clones shout the syllables of the technique, followed by the whole name, while performing it. Unlike the other, however, they end with punches instead of kicks. It is a technique requiring unbelievable amounts of chakra, but can easily pummel almost any opponent.
Vanishing Facial Copy Technique
This jutsu allows the user to peel the face of another person off and wear it like a mask, effectively impersonating said person. In addition to copying the victim's face, it also copies their voice. The grisly after-effect of this is that the target loses their face entirely, as if it were dissolved clean off their head. Orochimaru uses it to infiltrate Konoha during the Chunin Exam arc and again to impersonate the Fourth Kazekage just before the invasion. Orochimaru can seemingly do this at will to mimic his original appearance.
Water Clone Technique
This jutsu creates one or more identical copies of the user out of water. Like the Shadow Clone Technique, these clones are capable of attacking and using jutsu, but they are easier to defeat because they are only one-tenth of the user's power. Additionally, they can only be controlled within a certain distance of the user.
Water Prison Technique
This jutsu is used to trap a victim inside a virtually inescapable sphere of water. The only downside to this technique is that the user must keep at least one arm inside the sphere at all times in order for the victim to remain imprisoned. Clones can be used in place of the actual person, provided that the clone is the one that performed the technique. This jutsu can't be performed without a sufficiently large body of water to supply the water for it. Neji Hyuga has been able to use his ability to release chakra from all of his pressure points to disrupt the flow of chakra inside the prison and break free. When Tenten is trapped in the water prison she indicates that she can't breathe. Despite this, other characters have been shown remaining within it for long periods of time without incident and are even capable of talking.
Water Release: Exploding Water Shockwave
Using this jutsu, the user can spit a massive amount of water from their mouth. This technique was used by Kisame to turn a significant portion of a desert into an extremely deep lake while engaging Might Guy and his team. The water can then be used for other water-based jutsu.
Water Release: Five Eating Sharks
This jutsu is used when an opponent is knocked into water. From the water, five sharks are created and used to attack the opponent. The sharks must be created in a large amount of water. The user must keep his hand on the water or else the sharks will fall apart, since they are made from chakra. They first attack one-by-one, with each attack Kisame said "First Meal" up to "Fifth Meal". If the sharks suffer severe damage they can quickly regenerate themselves, making this a powerful technique.
Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique
This jutsu is used to fire a massive spiraling blast of water at an opponent.
Water Release: Rapid Crasher
This technique creates water that spirals in the user's hand and fires at a highspeed at the enemy. It is used in conjunction with Naruto Uzumaki's Wind Release: Rasengan to form the Drowning Maelstrom Technique.
Water Release: Syrup Capture Field
Using this jutsu, the user can spit a stream of extremely sticky syrup that covers the ground and holds opponents in place. Any ninja capable of walking on water can avoid being stuck in the syrup, but needs to do so before being caught.
Water Release: Water Dragon Blast Technique
Using this jutsu, the user creates a huge current of water in the form of a serpentine dragon and directs it towards a target. The water used to create the dragon must be present to perform the technique. This technique requires 44 hand seals to perform, more than five times that of almost every other jutsu shown in the series. In the manga, the Second Hokage needs only one hand seal to perform this technique, a testament to his skill.
Water Release: Water Encampment Wall
This jutsu creates a water barrier to protect the user from any offensive attacks. Both the Second Hokage and Kakashi Hatake were able to perform this without a water source by spitting the water from their mouths.
Water Release: Water Fang Bullet
This jutsu creates a circle of crushing water spikes around the opponent.
Water Release: Water Shark Missile Technique
This jutsu utilizes water to attack the enemy with a powerful water burst in the form of a shark.
Water Release: Waterfall Basin Technique
Yamato uses this technique along with Earth Release: Earth Flow Rampart to demonstrate elemental chakra types to Naruto, creating a waterfall as an example.
White Secret Technique: Ten Puppet Collection of Chikamatsu
This jutsu summons the ten masterpiece puppets of the first puppet user, Monzaemon. Chiyo once used it to defeat an entire castle. The puppets were designed as a set, with several special features that combine two or more puppets to create devastating combos, most notably the Three Buddhist Treasures Vacuum Destruction.
In addition to their combat abilities, the puppets have several features designed to seal chakra, leaving their enemies unable to perform jutsu. Each puppet is controlled by a single chakra string from one of the user's ten fingers.
Wind Release: Drilling Air Bullet
Shukaku takes a deep breath, distending his stomach, and punches himself in the gut, shooting a large ball of compressed air and chakra at an opponent, causing an enormous conflagration if it hits. Even opponents as large as Gamabunta are in danger against such an attack. The technique is also able to level trees and rip rocks apart.
Wind Release: Great Breakthrough
This jutsu sends out a powerful explosion of wind from the user's location, easily leveling anything in its path. A variation of this technique involves a smaller blast of wind that gets ignited with flame, making it stronger and more damaging to the target.

The user spews a large amount of sand from their body, devastating both the enemy and a large area around him.

Wind Release: Rasengan
This jutsu combines Naruto's wind-based chakra with the Rasengan, maintaining the stability of the previous version while increasing its power by a significant degree. During his training, Naruto was able to create a massive crater in the ground. Unlike the regular Rasengan, which requires a single clone to help form the sphere, this version requires a second clone to shape the wind-based chakra. Despite the damage it can currently cause, the technique is still only half complete. A variation of this technique is the Wind Release: Spiraling Shuriken.

Ninjutsu (忍術? "Ninja Techniques") is a vague term referring to almost any technique that uses chakra and allows the user to do something that they otherwise would be incapable of doing. The earliest forms of ninjutsu are said to have been created by the first owner of the Rin'negan. Unlike genjutsu, which makes the opponent see illusions, the effects of ninjutsu are quite real. Ninjutsu relies on chakra and, most of the time, hand seals (each hand seal showing a different animal in the Chinese zodiac) to be effective. The hands are put in sequential positions that mold chakra in the necessary manner to perform a jutsu. This is not always consistent, however, and some of the simpler jutsu seem to become second nature to experienced ninja, after which they can perform them at will. Additionally, some ninjutsu can be classified as an elemental jutsu, in those cases where a specific element (earth, fire, lightning, water, wind) is used.

Sealing jutsu (封印術 Fūin jutsu?) are jutsu that 'seal' something inside objects or living beings. The most common application of this is sealing weapons or other objects within scrolls to efficiently carry a large number of items. Sealing jutsu are also utilized to restrict access to things, such as chakra or entry to a building.

Taijutsu (体術? "Body Techniques" or "hand-to-hand combat") refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimization of natural human abilities in general. In other words, taijutsu is executed by accessing the user's stamina directly, rather than converting the user's stamina to chakra in order to execute a ninjutsu or genjutsu technique, meaning that taijutsu is much quicker to execute than (though not always as powerful as) ninjutsu or genjutsu. In some cases, chakra is used to enhance the techniques, particularly in the Hyuga clan's Gentle Fist style, and in the case of Tsunade and Sakura, who combine chakra into their attacks to cause great damage. Generally speaking, however, most taijutsu users rarely use chakra in their attacks.

Many jutsu are only performed once during the series or are used by only one character. The following are jutsu that are commonly used throughout the series by more than one character.
[edit]Basic techniques
Those aspiring to become a ninja must first enter the Ninja Academy, where they are required to learn a number of basic jutsu before they can go on to becoming full-fledged ninja. The most basic of these jutsu is the Cloak of Invisibility Technique (隠れ蓑の術 Kakuremino no Jutsu?, English TV "Disguise Jutsu"), which utilizes a cloak or a piece of cloth and help a ninja blend into an object, making them invisible. The Rope Escape Technique (縄抜けの術 Nawanuke no Jutsu?) is equally basic, as it simply allows the user to escape from their confinements. As the student progresses they move onto jutsu that require chakra, such as the Exploding Tag: Activate (自爆札?活 Jibaku Fuda: Kassei?), to remotely detonate an explosive, an advanced version of this is Barrier Encampment Method (結界法陣 Kekkai Hōjin?) where an array of explosive markers are jointly placed around the boundary of an area. If any opponent walks through the boundary, the seals will activate and explode. The Transformation Technique (変化の術 Henge no Jutsu?) also requires chakra, though once properly learned the user can assume the appearance of any person, animal, or object.
As students near the time of graduation they learn more complicated techniques that have the added advantage of being more useful in battle. The Body Replacement Technique (変わり身の術 Kawarimi no Jutsu?, English TV "Substitution Jutsu") allows the user to quickly switch places with a nearby object to either escape or distract opponents. While logs are typically used for this jutsu, anything can act as the replacement, people included. The most complex of the Academy jutsu is the Clone Technique (分身の術 Bunshin no Jutsu?, UK DVD "Art of Body Splitting" "USA DVD" "Clone Jutsu"), which creates illusionary copies of the user that dissipate when they come into contact with something. The clones have no impact on their surroundings (they won't kick up dust, crush grass, etc.), making them easily distinguishable. More experienced ninja typically abandon the use of this jutsu in favor of clone techniques with more substance, such as the Shadow Clone Technique or any number of elemental variants. After graduating and advancing to the rank of Genin, ninja typically learn the Body Flicker Technique (瞬身の術 Shunshin no Jutsu?) to momentarily boost the user's reflexes. With it they can move short distances at an almost untraceable speed, appearing to onlookers as though they teleport in a puff of smoke. The range of the technique is dependent on the user's chakra supplies, and as such the ability is rarely used to cover long distances due to the amount of energy it would require.

Chidori (千鳥, literally "One Thousand Birds") is an example of nature manipulation created by Kakashi Hatake after he failed to infuse his own nature manipulation with the Rasengan. The Chidori requires the user to channel a great deal of lightning-based chakra to their hand, so much so that the ordinarily invisible chakra becomes visible to the naked eye. Due to the high concentration of electricity the attack creates, it emits a sound that is reminiscent of chirping birds (hence the name). Once the attack is formed the user rushes at their opponent and thrusts their arm into a certain part of the body, such as the heart. While the technique is usually fatal to its target, the speed at which the user moves causes them to experience tunnel vision, leaving them open for attack. If the user possesses a Sharingan, however, they are able to take in more detail whilst moving, allowing them to avoid counterattacks.
The Chidori requires a great deal of control in order to be properly utilized; Kakashi, being the creator of the technique, has reached the peak of control over the ability. Because of this, Kakashi's version is referred to as the Lightning Blade (雷切 Raikiri?), a higher ranked form of the ability with which he was once able to split a bolt of lightning (hence the name). Due to the high levels of chakra required to form the technique, those able to perform it are limited to very few usages a day. Kakashi is only able to use his Lighting Blade four times a day in Part I. In Part II, while there is no indication his capacity has increased, he is seen collecting lightning-chakra to his hands multiple times, though they are never named as Chidori or the Lightning Blade. Kakashi teaches the Chidori to Sasuke Uchiha in Part I, who is only able to perform it twice a day under his own power. While his maximum number of usages in Part II has yet to be seen, he has used the fundamental behind the Chidori to create a number of lightning-based attacks.

The Combination Transformation (コンビ変化 Konbi Henge?) is an advanced transformation technique that transforms two users into one being; one user usually provides the chakra while the other performs the necessary hand seals. Naruto Uzumaki uses this ability with Gamabunta so that they can take on the form of a giant fox. The members of the Sound Four use it to assume the identities of the Fourth Kazekage's two bodyguards. Kiba Inuzuka and Akamaru perform a variant of the ability to take the form of a giant double-headed wolf, through which they can perform a number of other jutsu.
[edit]Dead Demon Consuming Seal
The Dead Demon Consuming Seal (屍鬼封尽 Shiki Fūjin?, English "Reaper Death Seal") is a seal created by the Fourth Hokage that invokes the powers of the death god (shinigami) (it's simply referred to as the "reaper", in the English Dub). Once called upon, the death god hovers behind the user and remains invisible to the opponent until it has grasped their soul. Once summoned, the death god reaches its arm into the summoner, signifying the hold it has upon their soul. After the sealing is completed the death god consumes the user's soul almost immediately. Once a soul has been eaten by the death god it resides within the god's stomach, destined to do battle with its fellow souls for all eternity.
Unlike many of the other seals used throughout the series, the Dead Demon Consuming Seal has served different purposes for each of its uses. When first used by the Fourth, it sealed the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox within Naruto Uzumaki. Once the fox was sealed within Naruto, the Fourth used a Four Symbols Seal (四象封印 Shishō Fūin?, English TV "Double Tetragram Seal") and the Eight Trigrams Sealing Style (八卦の封印式 Hakke no Fūin Shiki?, English TV "Eight Signed Seal") so that the demon fox's chakra could mix with Naruto's. When later used by the Third Hokage's shadow clones, the Dead Demon Consuming Seal sealed the souls of the First and Second Hokage within the clones' bodies. In this instance, the death god consumed the Hokage's souls in addition to the souls of the clones, suggesting that it consumes whatever souls are present within the user's body. When the actual Third Hokage uses the seal, it sealed Orochimaru's arms, preventing their use.

The Destruction Bug Host Technique (寄壊蟲の術 Kikaichū no Jutsu?, English TV "Parasitic Insects Jutsu") is a symbol of membership to the Aburame clan. When a child is born into the Aburame family, their body is offered to insects, called destruction bugs, as a nest. The bugs feed and live off the chakra that the body stores and in return the ninja gets to control and command the bugs, using them as their primary fighting technique. These bugs have the ability to drain chakra through physical contact with the enemy.
Shino Aburame, the most commonly seen member of the clan, has found a number of uses for these bugs, and as such has devised a number of jutsu that utilize them for varying purposes. The first of these jutsu that is seen is his Bug Clone Technique (蟲分身の術 Mushi Bunshin no Jutsu?), which uses the bugs to create a copy of himself that is able to reform once struck. In terms of defensive abilities Shino can use Bug Wall Technique (蟲壁の術 Mushi Kabe no Jutsu?) to create a protective wall of insects to shield himself or his allies. Should he run short on insects, Shino can use Bug Gathering Technique (蟲寄せの術 Mushi Yose no Jutsu?) to create a web-like array of chakra that lures nearby bugs to him.

The Eight Gates (八門 Hachimon?, English TV "The Eight Inner Gates") are eight specific points on a person's chakra circulatory system. They limit the overall flow of chakra within a person's body. The basis for the idea of the chakra gates comes from the body's limits on the functions within it. This makes the body much weaker, but it keeps the body from expiring too soon. By opening these gates, the user can surpass their own physical limits at the cost of extreme damage to their own bodies. Rock Lee is able to open the first five gates. Might Guy, who taught Lee the skill, is able to open at least six. Kakashi Hatake can open at least one gate, as shown while he is rock climbing where a shot of his brain shows the relevant point activating. The gates and what they release are listed below:
Gate of Opening (開門 Kaimon?) releases the brain's limit on the total strain on the muscles, giving the user five times their normal strength and speed. The user can perform the Front Lotus (表蓮華 Omote Renge?, Viz "Forward Lotus", English TV "Primary Lotus") at this level. The Front Lotus entails restraining an airborne opponent, either with bandages or breaking their bones to prevent movement. The user then grabs them, spins them as they near the ground, and delivers a piledriver on impact, inducing severe head trauma. After using the Front Lotus the user is left extremely fatigued, making this jutsu a "double-edged sword".
Gate of Rest (休門 Kyūmon?) releases the brain's limit on the body's stamina, making a battle-worn person become miraculously ready to fight as if the fight had just started.
Gate of Life (生門 Seimon?) is located on the spinal cord, and releases the limit on the nervous system, which makes information travel at a faster rate and creates even more stamina. As a side effect, the user's skin turns red, indicating an increased blood-oxygen level. The user can perform the Reverse Lotus (裏蓮華 Ura Renge?, English TV "Hidden Lotus") at this level, though in all of its uses the first five gates are opened as well. To use the Reverse Lotus the user must first launch his opponent into the air. Once doing so they rapidly pummel the opponent with punches and kicks before sending the target crashing into the ground. This is usually fatal due to the speed and power behind the attack. Because so many chakra gates are opened at once, it can only be used once, since the user will likely be unable to stand afterward.
Gate of Pain (傷門 Shōmon?) releases the limit on oxygen intake in the lungs, creating much more oxygen for the body to use.
Gate of Closing (杜門 Tomon?) releases the limit on the amount of chakra released at one time. Allows the user's movements to exceed the speed of sound.
Gate of Joy (景門 Keimon?) removes the limit on how much fat and proteins the intestines can digest, and releases otherwise useless energy resources, giving the user even more power and stamina. The user can perform the Morning Peacock (朝孔雀 Asa Kujaku?) at this level. Due to the advantages of the sixth gate, users of the Morning Peacock are able to repeatedly punch an opponent with such speed and strength that their punches form a peacock-like fan of flaming chakra. Once an opponent is struck with the attack they collapse, covered in the attack's aura.
Gate of Shock (驚門 Kyōmon?) removes the limit on how fast the body can move, removes wastes from dead skin cells to feces, and gives the body a much cleaner system to work with, producing even more power and stamina.
Gate of Death (死門 Shimon?) opens the final gate located at the heart and uses up all of the body's energy. It makes the heart pump at maximum power and exceeds the power of every other gate. All the energy in every individual cell is used up, giving the user power well above that of any Kage. This "big bang" effect is only temporary, and destroys every muscle in the user's body, including the heart. Death is assured when opening this gate.

The Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique (火遁?豪火球の術 Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu?, Viz "Fire Style: Blaze Of Glory", English TV "Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu") is the most basic method of fire manipulation in Naruto. The technique requires a large amount of chakra to perform. Once enough is gathered the user mixes his or her breath with the chakra, creating an enormous fireball, similar to a firebreathing technique. Since Kakashi Hatake is able to perform the technique without taking off his mask, it can be assumed that the fire does not originate from inside the mouth. This technique, as are the more complicated fire-based abilities, are common amongst Konohagakure ninja at or above Chunin-level. The Uchiha clan even considers this ability a rite of passage into adulthood, and when a member of the clan is able to successfully perform it they are allowed to learn some of the clan's more complicated techniques.

The Gentle Fist (柔拳 Jūken?) style of combat aims to damage the body's chakra circulatory system, thus inhibiting an opponent's use of chakra. To do this, the user will forcefully insert a small amount of their own chakra into an opponent's chakra circulatory system, causing the targeted area to rupture or divert flow. Alternatively, or as an additional effect, the same method can be used to damage the opponent's internal organs, to which the chakra circulatory system is closely tied. Even the slightest tap from this style can cause major damage, hence the name. Because the chakra circulatory system is invisible, the Byakugan is required for this style to be used effectively and thus it is exclusive to the Hyuga clan. As there is no way to train the internal organs to become stronger, this technique is capable of causing damage no matter how physically powerful the opponent is.
To quickly seal off an opponent's access to chakra, Gentle Fist style users can perform the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms (八卦六十四掌 Hakke Rokujūyon Shō?) to strike each of an opponent's chakra points in progressively heavier and faster volleys. Once completed the technique effectively eliminates an opponent's ability to use chakra and makes it difficult for them to move. The same process that seals off one's access to chakra can also be used as a shield. With Eight Trigrams Palms Heavenly Spin (八卦掌回天 Hakkeshō Kaiten?, English TV "Eight Trigrams Palm Rotation") and the larger Eight Trigrams Palms Great Heavenly Spin (八卦掌大回天 Hakkeshō Dai Kaiten?, English TV "Eight Trigrams Large Palm Rotation"), the user releases a huge amount of chakra from their chakra points when in danger of being attacked. The released chakra blocks any possible attack, and the user need only spin themselves rapidly to parry the attack, both creating a shield of chakra around themselves and tossing away any would-be attackers. Due to the effectiveness and power of these jutsu, teaching of the ability is restricted to only members of the main branch of the Hyuga clan, though prodigious Gentle Fist style users can replicate the same effects without being taught. Both Neji Hyuga and Hinata Hyuga use the fundamentals of these attacks to create their own unique jutsu.

The Mind Body Switch Technique (心転身の術 Shintenshin no Jutsu?, Viz "Art of the Valentine", English TV "Ninja Art: Mind Transfer Jutsu") is the signature ability of the Yamanaka clan. With it, the user sends their mind into a target's body (human or animal), supplanting the target's mind with their own. Though normally used as a spying jutsu, it can also be used in battle with several major drawbacks. First, the user's spirit travels slowly, making it easy to dodge. If the user misses their target, they are left helpless until their spirit returns to their body, which takes several minutes. Second, even if the technique does work, the user's ability to stay in an enemy's body is determined by how fatigued they are. The user can be forced out if facing a strong enough will, are too tired, or if the target is in incredible pain. Finally, any damage the user suffers while possessing another is transferred to their original body. Therefore, if the target dies, so does the user.
Once the Mind Body Switch Technique has been mastered, a Yamanaka is entitled to learn the Mind Body Disturbance Technique (心乱身の術 Shinranshin no Jutsu?). Rather than transfer the user's consciousness to another's body, this jutsu sends a spirit of confusion into a target, causing them to attack their allies. Although the target is aware of what they are doing, they are unable to stop themselves. For this particular jutsu, the user is able to stay in their own body, unlike its predecessor; however, the user must maintain the hand seal used to activate it.

The Multi-Size Technique (倍化の術 Baika no Jutsu?, Viz "The Art of Expansion") is the signature ability of the Akimichi clan. The ability increases the user's body size (as well as their clothing) by using up their stored food energy, converting calories into chakra. Akimichi clan members tend to eat fattening foods and have large physiques in order to support this technique. The proportions that the user's body increases to seems to depend on the level of expertise; when Choji Akimichi performs this technique in Part I it causes him to take on a round appearance, yet his Part II counterpart as well as his father are able to use the technique to make themselves the size of buildings. Older Akimichi use further variants of this ability such as the Partial Multi-Size Technique (部分倍化の術 Bubun Baika no Jutsu?), which allows them to increase the size of only parts of their body. Once an Akimichi has large enough chakra reserves they can also perform the Super Multi-Size Technique (超倍化の術 Chō Baika no Jutsu?) to increase their body's size to gigantic proportions. Akimichi often used their increased size to perform other jutsu, taking advantage of their bigger mass to make their attacks more potent.

The Puppet Technique (傀儡の術 Kugutsu no Jutsu?, Viz "Art of the Puppet Master", English TV "Puppet Master Jutsu") was created by Monzaemon Chikamatsu in order to convert a form of entertainment into a style of combat. The technique utilizes strings of chakra extending from the user's fingers to control a puppet's movements. Those who can effectively use this ability are rare, but once mastered the user can hide in a safe location while his puppet does the work for him. Skilled puppeteers are able to manipulate multiple puppets simultaneously, with Chiyo being able to use each of her ten fingers to control a different puppet. These chakra strings also allow puppeteers to manipulate other people or objects, controlling their movements to help or hinder their progress in battle.
The art of puppetry varies in usage from person to person, as puppets can be equipped with an array of different weapons and tools to make a battle easier. Puppeteers can also combine the abilities of their puppets to increase their effectiveness; Kankuro, for example, can use one of his puppets to capture an enemy while a second bombards them with weapons, killing them. Standard puppets, however, are limited to attacks not dependent on chakra, as soulless beings cannot utilize it. Sasori has created a workaround for this shortcoming by creating Human Puppet (人傀儡 Hitokugutsu?), which converts the body of a still-living person into a puppet. Because they were once human, these puppets are able to perform jutsu, giving them a drastic advantage over other puppets. Sasori has utilized the aforementioned advantage by converting his own body into a Human Puppet.

The Rasengan (螺旋丸, literally "Spiraling Sphere", Viz "Spiral Chakra Sphere") is a technique invented by the Fourth Hokage after three years of development. It requires no hand seals to perform, instead relying entirely on the chakra control of the user. The Rasengan grinds into whatever it touches, causing major damage as well as significant internal injury.
The level of chakra control required is very high, and because of this the teaching of this jutsu is split into three steps. The first, emphasizing rotation, has the user learn to pop a water balloon by spinning the water inside in multiple directions with their chakra. The second step, emphasizing power, requires the same be done with a solid rubber ball, forcing the user to rely on denser amounts of chakra to permeate the air within and break it. The final step, emphasizing control, has the user form a complete Rasengan by combining what they learned in the previous two steps and making a ball shape shell around the spinning chakra to hold it in regular shape. A regular balloon is often used to train making the shell. The Fourth taught the Rasengan to his student Kakashi Hatake, and his former teacher Jiraiya who in turn teaches it to Naruto Uzumaki.
While most users of this jutsu are skilled enough to perform it with one hand, Naruto uses three or more hands with the aid of a shadow clone – one hand to supply chakra and the others to spin and shape it. The use of shadow clones was originally a workaround that allowed him to master this high-level technique successfully and in a very short amount of time. He continues to use them ever since, since shadow clones are almost effortless for him to create and allow him to lessen the concentration required.
The Rasengan was created as the ultimate example of chakra form manipulation. However the Fourth had intended to combine it with nature manipulation, which proved to be as impossible as "looking left and right at the same time". The Fourth and Kakashi have both been unsuccessful in the attempt. In Part II, Naruto finally accomplishes the feat by using two shadow clones – one to manipulate form, one to manipulate nature – to infuse the Rasengan with his own wind-based chakra, and even goes on to create variants of the jutsu.

The Sexy Technique (おいろけの術 Oiroke no Jutsu?, Viz "Ninja Centerfold", UK DVD "Art of Eros"), created by Naruto Uzumaki, transforms the user into a beautiful, nude woman. Naruto uses it to distract or persuade whoever may be bothering him, sometimes leading to an exaggerated nosebleed by the victim. Naruto and his brief disciple, Konohamaru, create variants of the technique that include utilizing shadow clones to increase the number of nude individuals with which to distract others.

The Shadow Clone Technique (影分身の術 Kage Bunshin no Jutsu?, Viz "Art of the Shadow Doppelganger", UK DVD "Art of Shadow Body Splitting") creates actual copies, not illusions, of the user with whatever damage and weapons the original may have. The user's chakra is evenly distributed among every clone, giving each clone an equal fraction of the user's overall power. Because of this, the technique itself is considered dangerous; when creating multiple copies of one's self it is possible to use up all of one's chakra fairly quickly if the user is not paying attention to their chakra levels. This is considerably more dangerous with the jutsu's forbidden form, the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique (多重影分身の術 Tajū Kage Bunshin no Jutsu?, English TV "Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu"). While the standard Shadow Clone Technique typically creates no more than five clones, the Multiple version allows the creation of a limitless number of clones so long as the user has enough chakra. Due to the danger of the ability it is typically used by only the most advanced ninja, often at or above Jonin rank. Naruto Uzumaki, however, learned the technique prior to even becoming a ninja, and thanks to the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox he can use it to create thousands of clones and never worry about running out of chakra.
Any experience the shadow clones gain during their existence is transferred to the user once they are dispersed (occurs at the clones discretion or after it receives a solid blow). This makes the technique ideal for spying, since the user can simply send a clone to spy on a target and then have the clone disperse itself to quickly pass the information back to the user. It's also useful for training purposes, since the total amount of experience the user gains is multiplied by the total number of clones being used to train. Using it in this manner is far more difficult, however, since a large number of clones are needed to make a significant difference in the training time. Likewise, depending on how many clones are used for this purpose, the user can be overcome by the amount of information communicated to them with the clones' dispersion. Although Naruto has found a number of different uses for clones, he does not become aware of this added effect until he is actually told of it. Itachi Uchiha is able to alter the properties of shadow clones, as he can make them detonate or give the appearance that they are composed of crows upon dispersing.

The Shadow Imitation Technique (影真似の術 Kagemane no Jutsu?, Viz "Shadow Possession Technique", English TV "Shadow Possession Jutsu") is the signature technique of the Nara clan. This jutsu allows the user to control their own shadow and merge it with their opponent's shadow, combining them. This links the movements of the user with the target (both conscious and unconscious); the target is subsequently forced to make any movement the user makes. On the other hand, the user also mimics any movements that the target is forced to make, such as recoil from being punched. It is an extremely versatile technique as the user can contract and change the shape of their shadow, potentially grabbing multiple targets at once. The degree to which the user's shadow can be stretched is limited by its total surface area; by using the shadows of other objects, the user can extend their shadow beyond its normal range. The amount of time for which an opponent can be held is limited by the user's chakra, since the user must constantly maintain the jutsu. The jutsu is also more difficult to maintain at greater ranges or for multiple opponents, since the user's shadow must be stretched constantly. The target can force their way free with enough effort, though the amount of effort required to do so is considerable.
The Shadow Imitation Technique used to be called the Shadow Bind Technique (影縛りの術 Kage Shibari no Jutsu?, English TV "Shadow Paralysis Jutsu"), suggesting that the imitation aspect was devised later on and that the original technique could only hold targets in place. Shikaku Nara uses the former name of the technique when performing it.
Those who have mastered the Shadow Imitation Technique are then allowed to learn the Shadow Neck Bind Technique (影首縛りの術 Kage Kubi Shibari no Jutsu?, English TV "Shadow Strangle Jutsu"). After capturing an opponent with their shadow, the user can then further extend their shadow up to the target's throat in the shape of a hand, which chokes them to death. Additionally, it can be used to bind the limbs of exceptionally strong targets who can move, even while bound by the Shadow Imitation. Shikamaru Nara, after being taught the Shadow Neck Bind Technique, develops his own ways of manipulating his shadow, even going so far as to be able to separate it from surfaces and directly interact with others.

The Strong Fist (剛拳 Gōken?, Viz "Ferocious Fist", English TV "Iron Fist Taijutsu Style") style is Might Guy and Rock Lee's characteristic fighting style, the purpose of which is to cause external damage and break bones. Additionally, they have learned to open the eight chakra gates, allowing them to briefly increase their physical limits in exchange for severe physical damage after the effects have worn off. Sasuke Uchiha and Kakashi Hatake have copied this style with their Sharingan to limited degrees, and each uses a few of the style's attacks as part of other taijutsu.
The attacks that fall under the Strong Fist style almost exclusively deal with different methods of kicking the opponent. Leaf Great Whirlwind (木ノ葉大旋風 Konoha Daisenpū?, English TV "Leaf Hurricane") and the more powerful Leaf Strong Whirlwind (木ノ葉剛力旋風 Konoha Gōriki Senpū?, English TV "Severe Leaf Hurricane") are double kicks, the second being meant to worsen the damage of the first. Dynamic Entry (ダイナミック?エントリー Dainamikku-Entorī?) and Dynamic Action (ダイナミック?アクション Dainamikku-Akushyon?) are a flying kick and punch, respectively, meant to be used on distracted opponents. The Leaf Gale (木ノ葉烈風 Konoha Senpū?, English TV "Leaf Whirlwind") is a spinning kick to sweep opponents off their feet, while Leaf Rising Wind (木ノ葉昇風 Konoha Shōfū?) is a simple upper kick that can be used to disarm opponents. The Leaf Whirlwind (木ノ葉旋風 Konoha Senpū?, Viz "Konoha Hurricane", English TV "Leaf Hurricane") kicks the opponent into the air, allowing the user to trap the airborne opponent for further damage with Shadow of the Dancing Leaf (影舞葉 Kage Buyō?, Viz "Shadow of the Dancing Leaf", English TV "Dancing Leaf Shadow").

Water-based techniques are commonly used by ninja from Kirigakure such as Zabuza Momochi; Kakashi Hatake, having fought a number of Kirigakure ninja before, is also able to use a few water techniques. Most abilities that utilize water require a preexisting source in order to be performed, such as a lake or a puddle. Kisame Hoshigaki and the Second Hokage, however, are able to create their own bodies of water with which to perform jutsu. The only known exception to this rule is the Water Release: Water Encampment Wall (水遁?水陣壁 Suiton: Suijinheki?), which allows users to spit protective walls of water from their mouth to block attacks, though they can use other water sources if available.
The more common of water-abilities is the Water Clone Technique (水分身の術 Mizu Bunshin no Jutsu?, Viz "Water Clone Jutsu"), which creates copies of the user that can join them in battle. The clones must stay in range of the user in order to remain active, allowing opponents to easily escape them by running a short distance away. The Water Prison Technique (水牢の術 Suirō no Jutsu?) is equally common amongst Kirigakure ninja; with it they can trap opponents inside a virtually inescapable sphere of water. Because users must keep an arm inside the sphere in order for the opponent to remain imprisoned, water clones are often created for the sole purpose of performing and maintaining the jutsu. When Tenten is contained within one of these prisons she claims she cannot breathe, but other characters have displayed the ability to remain within it for long periods of time and are even capable of speaking.
Offensive water jutsu predominately deal with sending large amounts of water at opponents. These bodies of water are often shaped into different forms to allow more control or precision. The earliest example of such an ability is the Water Release: Water Dragon Blast Technique (水遁?水龍弾の術 Suiton: Suiryūdan no Jutsu?, Viz "Water Release: Water Dragon Missile"), which forms water into the shape of a dragon to attack others.

Ninjutsu (忍術? "Ninja Techniques") is a vague term referring to almost any technique that uses chakra and allows the user to do something that they otherwise would be incapable of doing. The earliest forms of ninjutsu are said to have been created by the first owner of the Rin'negan. Unlike genjutsu, which makes the opponent see illusions, the effects of ninjutsu are quite real. Ninjutsu relies on chakra and, most of the time, hand seals (each hand seal showing a different animal in the Chinese zodiac) to be effective. The hands are put in sequential positions that mold chakra in the necessary manner to perform a jutsu. This is not always consistent, however, and some of the simpler jutsu seem to become second nature to experienced ninja, after which they can perform them at will. Additionally, some ninjutsu can be classified as an elemental jutsu, in those cases where a specific element (earth, fire, lightning, water, wind) is used.

Sealing jutsu (封印術 Fūin jutsu?) are jutsu that 'seal' something inside objects or living beings. The most common application of this is sealing weapons or other objects within scrolls to efficiently carry a large number of items. Sealing jutsu are also utilized to restrict access to things, such as chakra or entry to a building.

Taijutsu (体術? "Body Techniques" or "hand-to-hand combat") refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimization of natural human abilities in general. In other words, taijutsu is executed by accessing the user's stamina directly, rather than converting the user's stamina to chakra in order to execute a ninjutsu or genjutsu technique, meaning that taijutsu is much quicker to execute than (though not always as powerful as) ninjutsu or genjutsu. In some cases, chakra is used to enhance the techniques, particularly in the Hyuga clan's Gentle Fist style, and in the case of Tsunade and Sakura, who combine chakra into their attacks to cause great damage. Generally speaking, however, most taijutsu users rarely use chakra in their attacks.

Many jutsu are only performed once during the series or are used by only one character. The following are jutsu that are commonly used throughout the series by more than one character.
[edit]Basic techniques
Those aspiring to become a ninja must first enter the Ninja Academy, where they are required to learn a number of basic jutsu before they can go on to becoming full-fledged ninja. The most basic of these jutsu is the Cloak of Invisibility Technique (隠れ蓑の術 Kakuremino no Jutsu?, English TV "Disguise Jutsu"), which utilizes a cloak or a piece of cloth and help a ninja blend into an object, making them invisible. The Rope Escape Technique (縄抜けの術 Nawanuke no Jutsu?) is equally basic, as it simply allows the user to escape from their confinements. As the student progresses they move onto jutsu that require chakra, such as the Exploding Tag: Activate (自爆札?活 Jibaku Fuda: Kassei?), to remotely detonate an explosive, an advanced version of this is Barrier Encampment Method (結界法陣 Kekkai Hōjin?) where an array of explosive markers are jointly placed around the boundary of an area. If any opponent walks through the boundary, the seals will activate and explode. The Transformation Technique (変化の術 Henge no Jutsu?) also requires chakra, though once properly learned the user can assume the appearance of any person, animal, or object.
As students near the time of graduation they learn more complicated techniques that have the added advantage of being more useful in battle. The Body Replacement Technique (変わり身の術 Kawarimi no Jutsu?, English TV "Substitution Jutsu") allows the user to quickly switch places with a nearby object to either escape or distract opponents. While logs are typically used for this jutsu, anything can act as the replacement, people included. The most complex of the Academy jutsu is the Clone Technique (分身の術 Bunshin no Jutsu?, UK DVD "Art of Body Splitting" "USA DVD" "Clone Jutsu"), which creates illusionary copies of the user that dissipate when they come into contact with something. The clones have no impact on their surroundings (they won't kick up dust, crush grass, etc.), making them easily distinguishable. More experienced ninja typically abandon the use of this jutsu in favor of clone techniques with more substance, such as the Shadow Clone Technique or any number of elemental variants. After graduating and advancing to the rank of Genin, ninja typically learn the Body Flicker Technique (瞬身の術 Shunshin no Jutsu?) to momentarily boost the user's reflexes. With it they can move short distances at an almost untraceable speed, appearing to onlookers as though they teleport in a puff of smoke. The range of the technique is dependent on the user's chakra supplies, and as such the ability is rarely used to cover long distances due to the amount of energy it would require.

Chidori (千鳥, literally "One Thousand Birds") is an example of nature manipulation created by Kakashi Hatake after he failed to infuse his own nature manipulation with the Rasengan. The Chidori requires the user to channel a great deal of lightning-based chakra to their hand, so much so that the ordinarily invisible chakra becomes visible to the naked eye. Due to the high concentration of electricity the attack creates, it emits a sound that is reminiscent of chirping birds (hence the name). Once the attack is formed the user rushes at their opponent and thrusts their arm into a certain part of the body, such as the heart. While the technique is usually fatal to its target, the speed at which the user moves causes them to experience tunnel vision, leaving them open for attack. If the user possesses a Sharingan, however, they are able to take in more detail whilst moving, allowing them to avoid counterattacks.
The Chidori requires a great deal of control in order to be properly utilized; Kakashi, being the creator of the technique, has reached the peak of control over the ability. Because of this, Kakashi's version is referred to as the Lightning Blade (雷切 Raikiri?), a higher ranked form of the ability with which he was once able to split a bolt of lightning (hence the name). Due to the high levels of chakra required to form the technique, those able to perform it are limited to very few usages a day. Kakashi is only able to use his Lighting Blade four times a day in Part I. In Part II, while there is no indication his capacity has increased, he is seen collecting lightning-chakra to his hands multiple times, though they are never named as Chidori or the Lightning Blade. Kakashi teaches the Chidori to Sasuke Uchiha in Part I, who is only able to perform it twice a day under his own power. While his maximum number of usages in Part II has yet to be seen, he has used the fundamental behind the Chidori to create a number of lightning-based attacks.
[edit]Combination Transformation
The Combination Transformation (コンビ変化 Konbi Henge?) is an advanced transformation technique that transforms two users into one being; one user usually provides the chakra while the other performs the necessary hand seals. Naruto Uzumaki uses this ability with Gamabunta so that they can take on the form of a giant fox. The members of the Sound Four use it to assume the identities of the Fourth Kazekage's two bodyguards. Kiba Inuzuka and Akamaru perform a variant of the ability to take the form of a giant double-headed wolf, through which they can perform a number of other jutsu.
[edit]Dead Demon Consuming Seal
The Dead Demon Consuming Seal (屍鬼封尽 Shiki Fūjin?, English "Reaper Death Seal") is a seal created by the Fourth Hokage that invokes the powers of the death god (shinigami) (it's simply referred to as the "reaper", in the English Dub). Once called upon, the death god hovers behind the user and remains invisible to the opponent until it has grasped their soul. Once summoned, the death god reaches its arm into the summoner, signifying the hold it has upon their soul. After the sealing is completed the death god consumes the user's soul almost immediately. Once a soul has been eaten by the death god it resides within the god's stomach, destined to do battle with its fellow souls for all eternity.
Unlike many of the other seals used throughout the series, the Dead Demon Consuming Seal has served different purposes for each of its uses. When first used by the Fourth, it sealed the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox within Naruto Uzumaki. Once the fox was sealed within Naruto, the Fourth used a Four Symbols Seal (四象封印 Shishō Fūin?, English TV "Double Tetragram Seal") and the Eight Trigrams Sealing Style (八卦の封印式 Hakke no Fūin Shiki?, English TV "Eight Signed Seal") so that the demon fox's chakra could mix with Naruto's. When later used by the Third Hokage's shadow clones, the Dead Demon Consuming Seal sealed the souls of the First and Second Hokage within the clones' bodies. In this instance, the death god consumed the Hokage's souls in addition to the souls of the clones, suggesting that it consumes whatever souls are present within the user's body. When the actual Third Hokage uses the seal, it sealed Orochimaru's arms, preventing their use.

The Destruction Bug Host Technique (寄壊蟲の術 Kikaichū no Jutsu?, English TV "Parasitic Insects Jutsu") is a symbol of membership to the Aburame clan. When a child is born into the Aburame family, their body is offered to insects, called destruction bugs, as a nest. The bugs feed and live off the chakra that the body stores and in return the ninja gets to control and command the bugs, using them as their primary fighting technique. These bugs have the ability to drain chakra through physical contact with the enemy.
Shino Aburame, the most commonly seen member of the clan, has found a number of uses for these bugs, and as such has devised a number of jutsu that utilize them for varying purposes. The first of these jutsu that is seen is his Bug Clone Technique (蟲分身の術 Mushi Bunshin no Jutsu?), which uses the bugs to create a copy of himself that is able to reform once struck. In terms of defensive abilities Shino can use Bug Wall Technique (蟲壁の術 Mushi Kabe no Jutsu?) to create a protective wall of insects to shield himself or his allies. Should he run short on insects, Shino can use Bug Gathering Technique (蟲寄せの術 Mushi Yose no Jutsu?) to create a web-like array of chakra that lures nearby bugs to him.

The Eight Gates (八門 Hachimon?, English TV "The Eight Inner Gates") are eight specific points on a person's chakra circulatory system. They limit the overall flow of chakra within a person's body. The basis for the idea of the chakra gates comes from the body's limits on the functions within it. This makes the body much weaker, but it keeps the body from expiring too soon. By opening these gates, the user can surpass their own physical limits at the cost of extreme damage to their own bodies. Rock Lee is able to open the first five gates. Might Guy, who taught Lee the skill, is able to open at least six. Kakashi Hatake can open at least one gate, as shown while he is rock climbing where a shot of his brain shows the relevant point activating. The gates and what they release are listed below:
Gate of Opening (開門 Kaimon?) releases the brain's limit on the total strain on the muscles, giving the user five times their normal strength and speed. The user can perform the Front Lotus (表蓮華 Omote Renge?, Viz "Forward Lotus", English TV "Primary Lotus") at this level. The Front Lotus entails restraining an airborne opponent, either with bandages or breaking their bones to prevent movement. The user then grabs them, spins them as they near the ground, and delivers a piledriver on impact, inducing severe head trauma. After using the Front Lotus the user is left extremely fatigued, making this jutsu a "double-edged sword".
Gate of Rest (休門 Kyūmon?) releases the brain's limit on the body's stamina, making a battle-worn person become miraculously ready to fight as if the fight had just started.
Gate of Life (生門 Seimon?) is located on the spinal cord, and releases the limit on the nervous system, which makes information travel at a faster rate and creates even more stamina. As a side effect, the user's skin turns red, indicating an increased blood-oxygen level. The user can perform the Reverse Lotus (裏蓮華 Ura Renge?, English TV "Hidden Lotus") at this level, though in all of its uses the first five gates are opened as well. To use the Reverse Lotus the user must first launch his opponent into the air. Once doing so they rapidly pummel the opponent with punches and kicks before sending the target crashing into the ground. This is usually fatal due to the speed and power behind the attack. Because so many chakra gates are opened at once, it can only be used once, since the user will likely be unable to stand afterward.
Gate of Pain (傷門 Shōmon?) releases the limit on oxygen intake in the lungs, creating much more oxygen for the body to use.
Gate of Closing (杜門 Tomon?) releases the limit on the amount of chakra released at one time. Allows the user's movements to exceed the speed of sound.
Gate of Joy (景門 Keimon?) removes the limit on how much fat and proteins the intestines can digest, and releases otherwise useless energy resources, giving the user even more power and stamina. The user can perform the Morning Peacock (朝孔雀 Asa Kujaku?) at this level. Due to the advantages of the sixth gate, users of the Morning Peacock are able to repeatedly punch an opponent with such speed and strength that their punches form a peacock-like fan of flaming chakra. Once an opponent is struck with the attack they collapse, covered in the attack's aura.
Gate of Shock (驚門 Kyōmon?) removes the limit on how fast the body can move, removes wastes from dead skin cells to feces, and gives the body a much cleaner system to work with, producing even more power and stamina.
Gate of Death (死門 Shimon?) opens the final gate located at the heart and uses up all of the body's energy. It makes the heart pump at maximum power and exceeds the power of every other gate. All the energy in every individual cell is used up, giving the user power well above that of any Kage. This "big bang" effect is only temporary, and destroys every muscle in the user's body, including the heart. Death is assured when opening this gate.
[edit]Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique
The Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique (火遁?豪火球の術 Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu?, Viz "Fire Style: Blaze Of Glory", English TV "Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu") is the most basic method of fire manipulation in Naruto. The technique requires a large amount of chakra to perform. Once enough is gathered the user mixes his or her breath with the chakra, creating an enormous fireball, similar to a firebreathing technique. Since Kakashi Hatake is able to perform the technique without taking off his mask, it can be assumed that the fire does not originate from inside the mouth. This technique, as are the more complicated fire-based abilities, are common amongst Konohagakure ninja at or above Chunin-level. The Uchiha clan even considers this ability a rite of passage into adulthood, and when a member of the clan is able to successfully perform it they are allowed to learn some of the clan's more complicated techniques.

The Gentle Fist (柔拳 Jūken?) style of combat aims to damage the body's chakra circulatory system, thus inhibiting an opponent's use of chakra. To do this, the user will forcefully insert a small amount of their own chakra into an opponent's chakra circulatory system, causing the targeted area to rupture or divert flow. Alternatively, or as an additional effect, the same method can be used to damage the opponent's internal organs, to which the chakra circulatory system is closely tied. Even the slightest tap from this style can cause major damage, hence the name. Because the chakra circulatory system is invisible, the Byakugan is required for this style to be used effectively and thus it is exclusive to the Hyuga clan. As there is no way to train the internal organs to become stronger, this technique is capable of causing damage no matter how physically powerful the opponent is.
To quickly seal off an opponent's access to chakra, Gentle Fist style users can perform the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms (八卦六十四掌 Hakke Rokujūyon Shō?) to strike each of an opponent's chakra points in progressively heavier and faster volleys. Once completed the technique effectively eliminates an opponent's ability to use chakra and makes it difficult for them to move. The same process that seals off one's access to chakra can also be used as a shield. With Eight Trigrams Palms Heavenly Spin (八卦掌回天 Hakkeshō Kaiten?, English TV "Eight Trigrams Palm Rotation") and the larger Eight Trigrams Palms Great Heavenly Spin (八卦掌大回天 Hakkeshō Dai Kaiten?, English TV "Eight Trigrams Large Palm Rotation"), the user releases a huge amount of chakra from their chakra points when in danger of being attacked. The released chakra blocks any possible attack, and the user need only spin themselves rapidly to parry the attack, both creating a shield of chakra around themselves and tossing away any would-be attackers. Due to the effectiveness and power of these jutsu, teaching of the ability is restricted to only members of the main branch of the Hyuga clan, though prodigious Gentle Fist style users can replicate the same effects without being taught. Both Neji Hyuga and Hinata Hyuga use the fundamentals of these attacks to create their own unique jutsu.

The Mind Body Switch Technique (心転身の術 Shintenshin no Jutsu?, Viz "Art of the Valentine", English TV "Ninja Art: Mind Transfer Jutsu") is the signature ability of the Yamanaka clan. With it, the user sends their mind into a target's body (human or animal), supplanting the target's mind with their own. Though normally used as a spying jutsu, it can also be used in battle with several major drawbacks. First, the user's spirit travels slowly, making it easy to dodge. If the user misses their target, they are left helpless until their spirit returns to their body, which takes several minutes. Second, even if the technique does work, the user's ability to stay in an enemy's body is determined by how fatigued they are. The user can be forced out if facing a strong enough will, are too tired, or if the target is in incredible pain. Finally, any damage the user suffers while possessing another is transferred to their original body. Therefore, if the target dies, so does the user.
Once the Mind Body Switch Technique has been mastered, a Yamanaka is entitled to learn the Mind Body Disturbance Technique (心乱身の術 Shinranshin no Jutsu?). Rather than transfer the user's consciousness to another's body, this jutsu sends a spirit of confusion into a target, causing them to attack their allies. Although the target is aware of what they are doing, they are unable to stop themselves. For this particular jutsu, the user is able to stay in their own body, unlike its predecessor; however, the user must maintain the hand seal used to activate it.
[edit]Multi-Size Technique
The Multi-Size Technique (倍化の術 Baika no Jutsu?, Viz "The Art of Expansion") is the signature ability of the Akimichi clan. The ability increases the user's body size (as well as their clothing) by using up their stored food energy, converting calories into chakra. Akimichi clan members tend to eat fattening foods and have large physiques in order to support this technique. The proportions that the user's body increases to seems to depend on the level of expertise; when Choji Akimichi performs this technique in Part I it causes him to take on a round appearance, yet his Part II counterpart as well as his father are able to use the technique to make themselves the size of buildings. Older Akimichi use further variants of this ability such as the Partial Multi-Size Technique (部分倍化の術 Bubun Baika no Jutsu?), which allows them to increase the size of only parts of their body. Once an Akimichi has large enough chakra reserves they can also perform the Super Multi-Size Technique (超倍化の術 Chō Baika no Jutsu?) to increase their body's size to gigantic proportions. Akimichi often used their increased size to perform other jutsu, taking advantage of their bigger mass to make their attacks more potent.

The Puppet Technique (傀儡の術 Kugutsu no Jutsu?, Viz "Art of the Puppet Master", English TV "Puppet Master Jutsu") was created by Monzaemon Chikamatsu in order to convert a form of entertainment into a style of combat. The technique utilizes strings of chakra extending from the user's fingers to control a puppet's movements. Those who can effectively use this ability are rare, but once mastered the user can hide in a safe location while his puppet does the work for him. Skilled puppeteers are able to manipulate multiple puppets simultaneously, with Chiyo being able to use each of her ten fingers to control a different puppet. These chakra strings also allow puppeteers to manipulate other people or objects, controlling their movements to help or hinder their progress in battle.
The art of puppetry varies in usage from person to person, as puppets can be equipped with an array of different weapons and tools to make a battle easier. Puppeteers can also combine the abilities of their puppets to increase their effectiveness; Kankuro, for example, can use one of his puppets to capture an enemy while a second bombards them with weapons, killing them. Standard puppets, however, are limited to attacks not dependent on chakra, as soulless beings cannot utilize it. Sasori has created a workaround for this shortcoming by creating Human Puppet (人傀儡 Hitokugutsu?), which converts the body of a still-living person into a puppet. Because they were once human, these puppets are able to perform jutsu, giving them a drastic advantage over other puppets. Sasori has utilized the aforementioned advantage by converting his own body into a Human Puppet.

The Rasengan (螺旋丸, literally "Spiraling Sphere", Viz "Spiral Chakra Sphere") is a technique invented by the Fourth Hokage after three years of development. It requires no hand seals to perform, instead relying entirely on the chakra control of the user. The Rasengan grinds into whatever it touches, causing major damage as well as significant internal injury.
The level of chakra control required is very high, and because of this the teaching of this jutsu is split into three steps. The first, emphasizing rotation, has the user learn to pop a water balloon by spinning the water inside in multiple directions with their chakra. The second step, emphasizing power, requires the same be done with a solid rubber ball, forcing the user to rely on denser amounts of chakra to permeate the air within and break it. The final step, emphasizing control, has the user form a complete Rasengan by combining what they learned in the previous two steps and making a ball shape shell around the spinning chakra to hold it in regular shape. A regular balloon is often used to train making the shell. The Fourth taught the Rasengan to his student Kakashi Hatake, and his former teacher Jiraiya who in turn teaches it to Naruto Uzumaki.
While most users of this jutsu are skilled enough to perform it with one hand, Naruto uses three or more hands with the aid of a shadow clone – one hand to supply chakra and the others to spin and shape it. The use of shadow clones was originally a workaround that allowed him to master this high-level technique successfully and in a very short amount of time. He continues to use them ever since, since shadow clones are almost effortless for him to create and allow him to lessen the concentration required.
The Rasengan was created as the ultimate example of chakra form manipulation. However the Fourth had intended to combine it with nature manipulation, which proved to be as impossible as "looking left and right at the same time". The Fourth and Kakashi have both been unsuccessful in the attempt. In Part II, Naruto finally accomplishes the feat by using two shadow clones – one to manipulate form, one to manipulate nature – to infuse the Rasengan with his own wind-based chakra, and even goes on to create variants of the jutsu.

The Sexy Technique (おいろけの術 Oiroke no Jutsu?, Viz "Ninja Centerfold", UK DVD "Art of Eros"), created by Naruto Uzumaki, transforms the user into a beautiful, nude woman. Naruto uses it to distract or persuade whoever may be bothering him, sometimes leading to an exaggerated nosebleed by the victim. Naruto and his brief disciple, Konohamaru, create variants of the technique that include utilizing shadow clones to increase the number of nude individuals with which to distract others.

The Shadow Clone Technique (影分身の術 Kage Bunshin no Jutsu?, Viz "Art of the Shadow Doppelganger", UK DVD "Art of Shadow Body Splitting") creates actual copies, not illusions, of the user with whatever damage and weapons the original may have. The user's chakra is evenly distributed among every clone, giving each clone an equal fraction of the user's overall power. Because of this, the technique itself is considered dangerous; when creating multiple copies of one's self it is possible to use up all of one's chakra fairly quickly if the user is not paying attention to their chakra levels. This is considerably more dangerous with the jutsu's forbidden form, the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique (多重影分身の術 Tajū Kage Bunshin no Jutsu?, English TV "Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu"). While the standard Shadow Clone Technique typically creates no more than five clones, the Multiple version allows the creation of a limitless number of clones so long as the user has enough chakra. Due to the danger of the ability it is typically used by only the most advanced ninja, often at or above Jonin rank. Naruto Uzumaki, however, learned the technique prior to even becoming a ninja, and thanks to the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox he can use it to create thousands of clones and never worry about running out of chakra.
Any experience the shadow clones gain during their existence is transferred to the user once they are dispersed (occurs at the clones discretion or after it receives a solid blow). This makes the technique ideal for spying, since the user can simply send a clone to spy on a target and then have the clone disperse itself to quickly pass the information back to the user. It's also useful for training purposes, since the total amount of experience the user gains is multiplied by the total number of clones being used to train. Using it in this manner is far more difficult, however, since a large number of clones are needed to make a significant difference in the training time. Likewise, depending on how many clones are used for this purpose, the user can be overcome by the amount of information communicated to them with the clones' dispersion. Although Naruto has found a number of different uses for clones, he does not become aware of this added effect until he is actually told of it. Itachi Uchiha is able to alter the properties of shadow clones, as he can make them detonate or give the appearance that they are composed of crows upon dispersing.

The Shadow Imitation Technique (影真似の術 Kagemane no Jutsu?, Viz "Shadow Possession Technique", English TV "Shadow Possession Jutsu") is the signature technique of the Nara clan. This jutsu allows the user to control their own shadow and merge it with their opponent's shadow, combining them. This links the movements of the user with the target (both conscious and unconscious); the target is subsequently forced to make any movement the user makes. On the other hand, the user also mimics any movements that the target is forced to make, such as recoil from being punched. It is an extremely versatile technique as the user can contract and change the shape of their shadow, potentially grabbing multiple targets at once. The degree to which the user's shadow can be stretched is limited by its total surface area; by using the shadows of other objects, the user can extend their shadow beyond its normal range. The amount of time for which an opponent can be held is limited by the user's chakra, since the user must constantly maintain the jutsu. The jutsu is also more difficult to maintain at greater ranges or for multiple opponents, since the user's shadow must be stretched constantly. The target can force their way free with enough effort, though the amount of effort required to do so is considerable.
The Shadow Imitation Technique used to be called the Shadow Bind Technique (影縛りの術 Kage Shibari no Jutsu?, English TV "Shadow Paralysis Jutsu"), suggesting that the imitation aspect was devised later on and that the original technique could only hold targets in place. Shikaku Nara uses the former name of the technique when performing it.
Those who have mastered the Shadow Imitation Technique are then allowed to learn the Shadow Neck Bind Technique (影首縛りの術 Kage Kubi Shibari no Jutsu?, English TV "Shadow Strangle Jutsu"). After capturing an opponent with their shadow, the user can then further extend their shadow up to the target's throat in the shape of a hand, which chokes them to death. Additionally, it can be used to bind the limbs of exceptionally strong targets who can move, even while bound by the Shadow Imitation. Shikamaru Nara, after being taught the Shadow Neck Bind Technique, develops his own ways of manipulating his shadow, even going so far as to be able to separate it from surfaces and directly interact with others.

The Strong Fist (剛拳 Gōken?, Viz "Ferocious Fist", English TV "Iron Fist Taijutsu Style") style is Might Guy and Rock Lee's characteristic fighting style, the purpose of which is to cause external damage and break bones. Additionally, they have learned to open the eight chakra gates, allowing them to briefly increase their physical limits in exchange for severe physical damage after the effects have worn off. Sasuke Uchiha and Kakashi Hatake have copied this style with their Sharingan to limited degrees, and each uses a few of the style's attacks as part of other taijutsu.
The attacks that fall under the Strong Fist style almost exclusively deal with different methods of kicking the opponent. Leaf Great Whirlwind (木ノ葉大旋風 Konoha Daisenpū?, English TV "Leaf Hurricane") and the more powerful Leaf Strong Whirlwind (木ノ葉剛力旋風 Konoha Gōriki Senpū?, English TV "Severe Leaf Hurricane") are double kicks, the second being meant to worsen the damage of the first. Dynamic Entry (ダイナミック?エントリー Dainamikku-Entorī?) and Dynamic Action (ダイナミック?アクション Dainamikku-Akushyon?) are a flying kick and punch, respectively, meant to be used on distracted opponents. The Leaf Gale (木ノ葉烈風 Konoha Senpū?, English TV "Leaf Whirlwind") is a spinning kick to sweep opponents off their feet, while Leaf Rising Wind (木ノ葉昇風 Konoha Shōfū?) is a simple upper kick that can be used to disarm opponents. The Leaf Whirlwind (木ノ葉旋風 Konoha Senpū?, Viz "Konoha Hurricane", English TV "Leaf Hurricane") kicks the opponent into the air, allowing the user to trap the airborne opponent for further damage with Shadow of the Dancing Leaf (影舞葉 Kage Buyō?, Viz "Shadow of the Dancing Leaf", English TV "Dancing Leaf Shadow").

Water-based techniques are commonly used by ninja from Kirigakure such as Zabuza Momochi; Kakashi Hatake, having fought a number of Kirigakure ninja before, is also able to use a few water techniques. Most abilities that utilize water require a preexisting source in order to be performed, such as a lake or a puddle. Kisame Hoshigaki and the Second Hokage, however, are able to create their own bodies of water with which to perform jutsu. The only known exception to this rule is the Water Release: Water Encampment Wall (水遁?水陣壁 Suiton: Suijinheki?), which allows users to spit protective walls of water from their mouth to block attacks, though they can use other water sources if available.
The more common of water-abilities is the Water Clone Technique (水分身の術 Mizu Bunshin no Jutsu?, Viz "Water Clone Jutsu"), which creates copies of the user that can join them in battle. The clones must stay in range of the user in order to remain active, allowing opponents to easily escape them by running a short distance away. The Water Prison Technique (水牢の術 Suirō no Jutsu?) is equally common amongst Kirigakure ninja; with it they can trap opponents inside a virtually inescapable sphere of water. Because users must keep an arm inside the sphere in order for the opponent to remain imprisoned, water clones are often created for the sole purpose of performing and maintaining the jutsu. When Tenten is contained within one of these prisons she claims she cannot breathe, but other characters have displayed the ability to remain within it for long periods of time and are even capable of speaking.
Offensive water jutsu predominately deal with sending large amounts of water at opponents. These bodies of water are often shaped into different forms to allow more control or precision. The earliest example of such an ability is the Water Release: Water Dragon Blast Technique (水遁?水龍弾の術 Suiton: Suiryūdan no Jutsu?, Viz "Water Release: Water Dragon Missile"), which forms water into the shape of a dragon to attack others.
