Answers: How often do people actually wear their costumes. Im going to one for the first time, and i was talking to my step-dad ( sci fi convention goer ) ( btw im turning 13 in dec. ) and he said that people only wear their costumes once, liek for the contests. I wanted to know if people wear them during the whole convention, or just on the first day/ on the day of the contests

Its up to you. You can wear the costume all day through the convention or only for the contest. If you are comfortable, then wear it all day. Its always cool to see people in their costumes. Once I saw the entire Inuyasha cast walking around a Sears mall and all the store clerks did like double takes. It was funny because they just looked out of place in a mall store but just fine in the convention enviroment.

Whatever is more confortable to you. Also, people might want to take pics of you if your costume is cool, just to note.

My understanding is that you wear it at all times. Although when I go I usually wear street clothes with some sort of addition. This year it's an orange. It's an in-joke.

It's personal preference mostly. The attention you get is lots of fun. I have many friends who cosplay and most of them wear their costumes half a day each day . . . Of course, my friends usually have multiple costumes. It doesn't have to be one time or just when you're in a contest. My favorite thing at an Anime Convention is seeing all the outfits, it makes me happy.
