You should definitely try watching NEON GENESIS EVANGELION
it has been voted the greatest manga ever written a few times, and a pretty good anime too. Sure:
1.The Main Character is the most angsty character ever created
2.there's alot of Christian related content
3.All the girls are either eccentric or creepy
4.The last few episodes were really weird
But it's is a GREAT Anime! trust me. In fact, one of the girl characters Rei is still in the list of the top most favorite anime girls. You never mentioned what kind of anime genre you prefer (slice of life, action, mecha, romance, drama, fantasty, etc) so I will just give you a bit of everything.
