- Kare Kano [Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou, His and Her Circumstances] (the animation isn't spectacular, but it was 1998 and Japan's economy was having problems) :

But a good drama is Hana Kimi. preferably the Chinese version. The actors are overly dramatic but theyre loveable, and the main guy is cute. Good show. You can check out" rozen maiden" it's pretty new, another one is "lucky star"... although it's only shorts it's pretty funny and sweet. mermaid melody

cadcaptor sakura Here are some suggested animes to watch:

*Peach Girl
*The Story Saiunkoku
*School Rumble
*Boys Over Flowers
*Piano I know how you feel i am very picky when it comes to anime so i will try to fit your need, here are some personal favorites:

1. Love Hina: Romance, harem, comedy
The story takes place in the Kanagawa Prefecture, and centers on 20-year old Keitaro Urashima, a young man desperately trying to be accepted into the prestigious Tokyo University in order to fulfill a childhood promise he made with a girl he now regards as the girl of his life. His obsessive pursuit of this dream is one of the few shining spots of optimism in his otherwise unlucky life. He becomes manager of the Hinata House (日向荘, Hinata Sō?, also known as Hinata Apartments), property of his family and now an all-girls' dormitory.

After much tribulation, he wins their respect and eventual affection. From the beginning of the series, he suffers physical damage and abuse, which continues and increases as the series goes on. (In the anime the girls are openly shown being less hostile towards Keitaro, many fans have seen this as a weakness, saying that because of this the emotional scenes – particularly those between Keitaro and Naru – don't stand out as much as they do in the manga.)

Keitaro's primary (and usually exclusive) interest is in Naru Narusegawa, though all the other girls have different sorts of affections for him (including close friend, a playmate, and non-threatening crush object). Keitaro and Naru's relationship is complicated by several girls falling for him, or girls Keitaro promised a future relationship with while he was younger.

2. Full Metal Panic: Mecha, Romance, some comedy
Kaname Chidori is your average teen in modern Japan. At least, that's what she thought before a boy named Souske Sagara began following her around, acting like a totally paranoid military freak!
Things start to be explained when her school trip is hijacked and taken to North Korea, where Kaname is kidnapped and told that she is a Whispered. the Whispered are genetic anomalies, beings born with vast amounts of incredibly advanced knowlegde of math, science, and technology. Souske comes to rescue her, revealing that he is a trained specialist in the secret military organization MITHRIL, sworn to protect the world and guard the Whispered from being misused by terrorists.
Now with the knowledge of what she is and what Souske was sent to do, can she make her way through high school in one piece?

3. Shuffle: Harem, Comedy, Romance
The basic storyline of Shuffle! follows the romantic life of Rin Tsuchimi, a normal human, Japanese high schooler, who finds himself being sought after by a variety of girls. The world of Shuffle! consists of humans living in harmony with gods (with slightly pointed ears) and devils[2] (with very pointed ears). Despite their respective positive and negative connotations, both races are equally kind and good-natured. Rin soon finds himself as the potential marriage candidate for both Lisianthus and Nerine, the two daughters of the kings of the god and devil worlds who recently transferred to Rin's school. In addition to them, he is also liked by his childhood friend Kaede, his senior Asa, and the mysterious, reserved Primula. Through the course of the game, Rin will end up with one of those five girls and fall into mutual love.

Depending on how the player plays the game, the story beyond this basic set-up can differ greatly. The storyline of the adaptations of Shuffle! generally try to incorporate the stories from all of the paths in the visual novel, but still vary greatly in which events occur and the order of those that do, not to mention which girl Rin falls in love with.

4. Ultra Maniac: Magical girl, Romantic comedy
Ayu Tateishi is a normal middle school student, until the fateful day when she finds the crying Nina Sakura outside the school, looking very dejected. Nina explains that she lost something very dear to her earlier during the day so, Ayu, being a kind girl, offers to help Nina find her lost item. The girls hunt for Nina's lost mini-computer, which is eventually found by Ayu. To repay Ayu for her kindness, Nina struggles to decide whether to let Ayu in on her 'big secret'. Nina is actually from the Magic Kingdom and is a magic-using witch. However, Ayu doesn't realize this immediately, being sort of clueless with computers and merely thinking that Nina is somewhat geeky. Nina struggles with her secret overnight, and in the morning before school confides her secret in Ayu. Of course, Ayu doesn't believe her, since magic is the spice of fairy tales in the real world. The story continues as friendship between Ayu and Nina blossoms, romance between Ayu and Kaji grows, and Nina's magically-inclined friends visit from the Magic Kingdom, to the chagrin of all involved.

The anime is very different from the manga. The story starts after Ayu and Nina have met. In episode 4, it focuses on when they meet. In the anime, Nina came to Earth in search of the 5 "Holy Stones". If she collects all 5, she will qualify to marry the prince of the Magic Kingdom. Also, she has a magic school uniform that she puts on to use magic. In the end Nina collects all the stones but gives them to Maya, her childhood friend who also was a candidate for the princess, because she learned that the prince was truly in love with Maya.

5. Karin: Romantic comedy
The story revolves around the title character, Karin, the middle child in a family of vampires who immigrated to Japan two centuries earlier. However, Karin is different from the rest of the family in that she produces blood instead of feeding on it; because of this, she has to inject blood by biting someone or else she suffers exaggerated nosebleeds. (In manga and anime nosebleeds are also a metaphor for sexual attraction; as Karin is a coming of age story dealing with her first love, the nosebleed imagery does double-duty.) Because of her unusual condition, Karin lives her life just as an ordinary teenage girl would, despite being considered something of a freak by her family. She is able to venture outside during the day and attend high school, and follows the sleep pattern of normal humans. However, the general peacefulness of her life is disrupted with the arrival of a new transfer student, Kenta Usui.

Any time she goes near him her blood increases. At first she tries to avoid him but it doesn't work since they are in the same class and work in the same restaurant. Kenta on his part thinks that there is something fishy about Karin and eventually he learns her secret. Karin's elder brother Ren tries to erase his memory but Anju, Karin's younger sister stops him from doing so. She also convinces their parents Henry and Carrera to make Kenta their ally, because he can help Karin during the daylight.

Karin and Kenta become friends. Kenta helps Karin clean up the mess made by her nosebleeds and Karin prepares him a lunch box (bento) every day.

At this point the manga and anime diverge. In the anime only, another transfer student appears, Winner Sinclair. He is very good looking and most of the schoolgirls fall for him including Karin's best friend Maki Tokito. But Winner states that Karin is the girl of his dreams. He also is a vampire hunter much to Karin's dismay and Kenta's annoyance because he receives a duel challenge over Karin almost every day.

As the story progresses Kenta and Karin's attachment to one another grows, and so do their problems. First Karin's grandmother Elda breaks free from her coffin (which Carrera had sealed her into) and starts wrecking everyones lives. Except for her bust size, hair length, and hair color she looks identical to Karin, and uses this resemblance to go unnoticed in Karin's school.

6. Tsubasa Chronicle: Adventure, Fantasy, Romance, Science Fiction, Comedy.(My favorite but the rest of the anime continues on athe manga, which could be found at Bleach Exile.com)

Sakura is the princess of Clow kingdom, which is ruled by her older brother, King Tōya. Her childhood friend Syaoran is a young archaeologist. Sakura is revealed to have strange powers when she has a vision of a mysterious symbol and places she has never seen. Meanwhile, Syaoran discovers the same symbol at the ruins he is excavating. He sees Sakura standing on the symbol on the ground. Ghostly wings appear on her back and a mysterious force begins to pull her into the walls of the ruins. Syaoran rescues her in time, but her wings are scattered across dimensions. The High Priest of Clow Kingdom, Yukito, immediately realizes that Sakura's "wings" were the manifestation of her soul and memories; without them, she will die. In order to save Sakura, Syaoran must journey to retrieve her wings' feathers, the fragments of her memories.

Yukito sends Syaoran and the unconscious Sakura to the Dimensional Witch, Yūko, who is one of the main characters in xxxHolic. There he meets Kurogane, a rough-mannered ninja banished from his world by Princess Tomoyo, and Fay D. Flourite, a magician who fled his world to avoid King Ashura. Each of them must pay with what he values most in order to gain the power to cross dimensions. For Kurogane, it is his sword Ginryū, and for Fay, it is the symbols on his back which regulates his control of his magic. Syaoran, on the other hand, must pay with his relationship with Sakura: even if he is able to retrieve all of her memories, she will never remember anything about him or their relationship. (This sacrifice also pays Sakura's "toll" to Yūko, because what Sakura values most are her memories of and with Syaoran.) Only when the three agree to her terms does Yūko present them with the power to cross dimensions; a white creature named Mokona Modoki.

While traversing through worlds to find Sakura's feathers, the four travellers and Mokona are forced to overcome many dangers and opponents, some of whom are figures from Syaoran's past who wish to collect Sakura's feathers for their own reasons as they are seen to be objects that hold great power.

The manga adopts darker and more complex tones in the latter half of the story.

Because of the crossover characters with xxxHolic, the two manga occasionally intertwine with each other.
