I want to own my own private vocal studio, and give private singing lessons. wha!

Question:

I want to own my own private vocal studio, and give private singing lessons. what kind of degree should i get?

plymouth state has a vocal performance with a pedagogy option, and so far that seems the best for my needs....

do you know of any other colleges that would provide the program i want?

thank you very much.

Answers:

While many schools have vocal perf. degrees, IMHO, that is not the best to get. I'd try and major in choral education. That will give you sufficient private vocal training, and would be a valuable degree to have if you can't find enough private students (and believe me, that is the case with MOST pros out there...me included:/.) Also, that degree really gives you more actual teaching experience than vocal performance and in situations that are more challenging than private lessons (with a group.)

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but many people will not pay money for private music education like they used to. Instead their money goes for huge weddings, palatial houses, and stinkingly expensive cars. You could ask on a music teacher or voice listserv if you don't believe me.
