Big Brother...?!

Question:

Big Brother...?

Forget about that silly series of reality shows; I'm talking about the real Big Brother from George Orwell's '1984' (which amazingly was written in 1948 - great vision). Even though it's several years past 1984, how many people think Big Brother is alive today in our society?

FYI -In George Orwell's 1984, the embodiment of state power is ‘Big Brother’, a middle-aged man pictured almost everywhere and said to be always watching the people. Big Brother was, thus, a powerful, literary image of totalitarianism. For Orwell, he combined elements of Hitler and Stalin, but perhaps also Lord Reith (the first chairman of the BBC), God, and Winston Churchill. The image of Big Brother has entered political language and propaganda and is used to connote the all-embracing power of the state.

Answers:

Isn't it sad that some people don't have any idea what the book Big Brother is...and that they think you're talking about the TV show--EVEN AFTER you explain what you're asking? Oh, and that they don't understand that the TV show got it's name because of the book?

Anyhow, Big Brother is alive and running. Right now, mostly in corporate situations. However, I think there is a ton of governmental "watching" that we no nothing about--especially since the September 11th disaster.

Corporately, I'm sure my company knows I'm on answers.yahoo.com. I'm guessing they could have a keylogger on my PC (or maybe somewhere else in our network) so they know what I'm typing. And I've worked at places that tracked phone numbers you called, and noted things like how often you called home.
