In the New Testament the night was divided into four time periods, or watches. Each of the watches were three hours long and were organized as follows:
First Watch (The Evening Watch) - 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Second Watch (The Midnight Watch) - 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Third Watch (The ****-Crow) - 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.
Fourth Watch (The Morning Watch) - 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Our logo represents the Fourth Watch by using the letter "O" to represent the face of a clock, with the hours of 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. shaded in. The Lord impressed this to us as that which best represents the nature of the ministry He has called us to perform.
The Fourth Watch symbolizes the darkest period of the night just prior to sunrise. Scripture tells us it was during the Fourth Watch that Jesus saw His disciples on the lake, struggling against the waves, and walked on the water to them (Matthew 14:23-33).
The Fourth Watch is the time when most people are asleep. It is the period of night when even watchmen are most likely to doze off. It was during the Fourth Watch that Jesus bid His disciples to keep watch and pray with Him, but they could not stay awake (Mark 14:32-41).
This seems to best describe the condition of the Church today. Some disciples are struggling against the waves, and others are fast asleep. But the Lord has called us to watch and pray while others are allowed to take their rest. We keep watch not only for the Lord's sake, but for the Body's sake. And, from time to time, the Lord will send us to those disciples struggling against the waves and bring them a fresh revealing of the Lord Jesus.
