Do other stars drive drunk too?

I see that Lindsay Lohan is in trouble again for a possible DUI and having cocaine in her pocket. There has been a rash of young starlets getting into trouble for this behavior. My question is, why didn't the stars from yesteryear have these issues? Surely Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr. drank quite a bit and then went swerving and swaying and singing home in their cars. Why is it they never did any time in the pokey, and these girls -- Hilton, Richie, Lohan -- seem to be crying to spend time there? Is our younger generation really more corrupt? What's the deal?

Drunk driving awareness is more prevalent in today's society. Also, I think there are more cars on the road than there were back at that time, making drunk driving far more serious. For all we know James Dean was drunk at the time of his car crash. I don't think they did any tests during that era, so who knows. Montgomery Clift famously crashed his car and seriously injured himself after a party at Liz Taylor's house. Was he drunk? Probably! I think also that these celebrities have an entitled attitude, as if they can get away with anything due to their celebrity status. Remember, stars of yesteryear were in a precarious position. They had to be careful of scandals and walked a fine line between stardom and ridicule. For instance, Sammy Davis' relationship with a white woman almost ruined his career. Stars of today don't have to worry about things like that, and so they push the envelope with drugging, drunk driving and bashing in car windows with baseball bats. Perhaps we the public shouldn't be so forgiving of their actions.
