Don't make senarios either like 'Well if my spouse is closer" no. They're just both drowning no closer no further.

Haha I do like horror movies but no I'm one of those sickos who enjoys asking stupid questions.

You save the child because it has more years to live. Your spouse has already lived enought to even have kids yet your child hasn't therefore the best one to save would be your child. Also, the child is smaller so it would be easier to take out of water and save.
