70mm film is a much better format than video!.

No, I'm not afraid of losing my job!. I'm retired!. You asked a question!. I gave you an EDUCATED answer!. You however think you already know the answer so i can't help but wonder why you asked!. The Internet will never do what Hollywood does!. The Internet is a NETWORK!. Not a production tool!. Hollywood produces movies for the big screen; not Youtube videos!. The reason that $2,000!.00 video would cost $100,000!.00 in Hollywood is that it would be done in a 35mm or 70mm film format, not video!. Film is a much more expensive media to work with but it produces a much higher quality image when projected onto a large screen!. Because of the production cost of film, only the most talented people in the industry are hired to do the production!. Mistakes can be really expensive!.
BTW, MTV has some of the lowest paid production people in the industry!. They hire star-struck interns and work them to death!. I know because I've worked with many of them!.
Congrats to your friend!. It sounds like he is becoming successful at his music video career!. That takes talent and work!. I suspect that if you asked him if he thinks his business will put Hollywood out of business he would laugh at you!. He probably understands the industry much better than you!.

I was probably in some way involved in the creation of some of the production tools your friend uses as I was one of the first involved in High Definition video format going all the way back to Sony's HDD1 1125 and European 1250 and worked with 1080i until a year ago!.

I was very successful and I was fortunate and intelligent enough to have learned from the best!. Something you are obviously unwilling to do because it is apparent that you still don't see the distinction between video and film!. I'll say it really loud cuz you don't seem to get it:

If you had asked if small studios are creating more competition for larger studios the answer would have been; "DUH" It's been like that since the late 80s when Mackie started making inexpensive recording equipment and a lot of the large LA studios went under!. Now VIDEO editing equipment is less expensive and the same thing is happening with video!. There is a distinction between film and video!. Once again: Hollywood makes FILMS for the big screen!. As long as people buy movie tickets there is no chance that the Internet will destroy Hollywood!. That's like saying McDonalds will destroy Walmart!. They are two different markets!.
