Listen---I've been a REAL Metal fan for a few DECADES and am probably older than most on here!. I must say that most people on here don't know CRAP about REAL metal!. I've had Metallica albums for over 20 years since the BEGINNING, so here's the REAL deal!.
First, Anything after BLACK album SUCKED butt, leaving only 5 albums!. The BEST comes down to Kill Em All and Justice For All!.
Master Puppets GOOD but damn overrated, Lightning was very CREATIVE, but overrated also!. BLACK was COMMERCIAL and the beginning of the decline!. Gimme a break, SANDMAN is a TOP 40 hit!! U call that real metal!?!! BLAH!! Ever heard the term SELLING OUT!?! I've been listening to ALL albums carefully recently, so this is an expert opinion formed over MANY MANY YEARS!.!.!.
If we had to pick THE BEST, You'd have to go with KILL EM ALL!!!!
Just kick-*** RAW aggressive metal!. The tunes are also simply the best!. Whiplash, 4 Horsemen, No Remorse, Hit the Lights, and so on! Ask any true Metallica fan and they'll say the same!. Forget those Puppets obsessed ones!. MOP was great song, but NOT the album as a whole!. Get it!?!
This is based on a TRUE metal fan, not a clueless pansy who doesn't know squat and is into commercial fake crap!.
BTW, anyone who has a clue about QUALITY knows that MEGADETH's and IRON MAIDEN's music is FAR superior to any Metallica!.

I also will have to go with the "Black Album"
It was the perfect mixture of classic metal and melodic rock!. It was definately their most accessable album, and it doesn't have a bad track on it!. Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam, Nothing Else Matters and Sad But True are all classic tracks!.
