He lost his fans basically because he's different!. He follows Scientology, and because it's different, people think he's weird!. I don't know much about the religion in general, though, so I'm not one to judge!.
The whole thing with Oprah's couch is that he was really excited because he had just proposed to Katie, his wife, and he couldn't contain his enthusiasm!.
