There have been numerous rumours over the years that Elvis faked his own death - he was in with the wrong crowd, taking uppers and downers and his mind was all over the place so the only way to quit was to do as we say a "Reggie Perrin" and fake his own death and start again!.
I think when it comes to public figures who are idolised, people don't want to simply accept that the person has died (especially in the un-glam way that Elvis was rumoured to have died), so they cling to the hope that somewhere out there, Elvis lives and occassionally appears at peoples weddings and sings "Love me tender" for them (Google it, I bet you are bound to find numerous "Elvis sang at my wedding" stories)!. Why don't you ask the coroner!? If he was still alive, don't you think his ex-wife and daughter would know about it and wouldn't talk about him dying which he clearly did!?
