What are your thoughts about what Jane Fonda did during the Vietnam War?!

Question: What are your thoughts about what Jane Fonda did during the Vietnam War!?
I've always been a big Jane Fonda fan!. Love her movies and actually really like her workouts (I still use her Total Body Sculpting DVD)!.

But since I was merely an infant when the Vietnam War was going on and only 3 years old when it ended, I didn't hear or know about her actions during the Vietnam War!. In 1972, Jane Fonda actually visited North Vietnam and sided with the enemy!. Later, she condemned American POW's who claimed they had been tortured -- she called them "liars and hypocrites!." During her visit she recorded nine radio broadcasts on behalf of the North Vietnamese, calling our American serviceman "War criminals!."

Should she have been tried for treason!? In her autobiography she explained and apologized for much of this!. I almost feel guilty being a fan of hers!.!.!. (My dad dislikes her!. He was in the Army, but didn't serve in Vietnam!. My older brother was in the Army in the 1980s and likes Jane Fonda just fine and doesn't care!.)

Anyway, what are your thoughts!? Should she have been tried for treason!? Sent to prison!? Or is the fact that she apologized good enough for forgiveness!? (Imagine someone going to Iraq today and doing the same thing!.!.!.)Www@Enter-QA@Com

My thoughts!.!.!.
Well, my first reaction is "old news"!.!.!.however your last line intrigued me!.

I guess if this were to happen in today's context I would be very angry and disgusted, much like many people were then!. That said, it is imperative to remember that the difference between then and now is 9-11!. That puts the situations in different perspectives!. Her actions then were controversial, but her apology was/is appropriate and acceptable!. Any celebrity who would today denounce our soldiers in the manner Ms!. Fonda did back then would likely face a very different fallout!. an apology by a celebrity would be demanded, but probably never truly accepted by the public!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

well the handfull(5) that did go & make it back wont say anything except it was a bad time!. wagon jumpers like, not only jane but others who got caught up in a movement!. no dont hate her, just realize that the freedom of speech should never be used aginst a patriot!. and yes,i never owned a jane fonda movie!. I think she was stupid and misguided at that time!. Should she have been tried for treason!? No!. However, she did betray our country and that is completely inexcusable!. Yes, she did apologize!. Whether the apology was genuine or just designed to save her career is the another question!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes she should have cos if it were us we would be hung, drawn, and quartered thanks for the info btw i didn't know that about her!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Unfortunately for the vets of Viet Nam many people back then confused being anti-war with being anti-soldier!. The average American farm boy from Iowa who was drafted, went and did what he thought was his duty for his country, suffered all sorts of horrors in Viet Nam and then came home to be disrespected and forgotten!. The only legal way to keep from going was to have a college deferment and back then fewer people had the money to go to college, so it became a poor boy's war!. It was either that or run away to Canada!.
Jane Fonda was just some second rate actress who was mostly famous for being Henry Fonda's daughter!.(sorry, I never thought she was a good actress)
She was exaggerating her own importance by even going to Viet Nam in the first place!. I just read something about how she visited a POW camp and the soldiers lined up to shake hands with her!. They passed notes to her when they shook her hand and when they were done she turned the notes over to the Viet Cong!. The prisoners were beaten for it!.
What kind of person would do something like that!? How was that going to end the war!? She was and still is, a big idiot in my opinion!. The Beatles only mentioned a few famous people they didn't like and Jane and her brother Peter were two of them!. They thought they were fakes trying to be cool!. John Lennon wrote the song She Said, She Said about Peter Fonda, changing he to she!. He couldn't stand Peter and thought he was an idiot!. Same goes for Jane as far as I'm concerned!. Yeah, she probably should have been tried for treason, but it never would have happened back then!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
