Question: Why do so many great artists die from drug abuse or suicide!?
there are some great artists still living but it seems to me like the best ones die of drug abuse or kill themselves like jimi hendrix, kurt cobain and layne staley!. they had such raw talent, they were very unique and passionate!. it's hard to find artists like that willing to go the extra mile and give their fans something real that they can relate too, not just what is hot now and what is saling the fastests amongst our youth!. the music business has changed drastically and we dont have as many pioneers everyone is singing and rapping about the same thing with the esception of a few artists who work hard to do their own thing and not fall into the wrong things!. kanye west, jay z, ludacris, ti linkin park, korn, beyonce, mary j!. blige, alicia keys, lil wayne, disturbed, avenged sevenfold, (to name a few) are all very talented artists who are being leaders not followers!. even tila tequila is doing her own thing whether people like her or not she is working it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I must be honest; this is a good question but many of the people you mention I don't consider to be artists!. Kobain and Hendrix yes; the rap stuff I hate but I won't deny people can consider it art!. Tila Tequila!? Sorry, but no!. No art going on there!. Complete nonsense manufacutured by the media showing us someone behaving badly!. This will fade eventually!.
But still a good question!. Since I'm a jazz musician I'll tell you about one of my musical heroes: Charlie Parker (aka "Bird" or "Yardbird"):

People on the level of genius Bird was on have very addictive personalities!. They think on an entirely different plane than most and crave constant attention!. On top of which because they are SO good and have to maintain such a constant level of perfection they get the idea that they are perhaps not so good or can't do it!. Let's add in that for some of those guys it was difficult to make a living!. So they lean on the juice for support; in Bird's case it was heroin!. Then they die young; Bird was 35 but the coroner thought he was 70 when he saw him, that's how much damage had been done!. What a tragedy!. Such wonderful musical talent and one of the smartest, most intellectual people who ever graced the planet!. Read about him, listen to him, and you will see what I mean!.
In the case of some of the no-talent's we have around today!? Its because the level of talent can't live up to the level of hype and the person knows that!. So, because they also crave attention, they start doing stupid s**t to stay in the spotlight!. A perfect example of this!? Britney Spears!.

Artists in general are torchured people ~ they are left brained and struggle with logical practical processes because the CREATIVE PROCESS takes over and envelops their life!.
Perhaps those artists that are well balanced LEFT/RIGHT brain are the ones that keep a good head on their shoulders and come out OK!.

I think Kurt Cobain did it because he couldn't handle the sudden fame!? I don't know, I wonder the same thing!. If they're on a roll, creative, making good music, being so loved, why would they want to kill themselves/ruin it with drugs!?!Www@Enter-QA@Com
They start the drugs because they can't handle the fame and they have the money for them!. Since they are on drugs, that makes it even more difficult to cope with the fame, so in the end they just decide to kill themselves!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
well i think that no one understands their art or them for that matter!. they turn to drugs to ease up and focus or get inspirartion for a new creative idea or a new painting or whatever!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

They start the drug abuse because they can't cope with the fame that comes with doing their thing in front of the whole world!. Think about it, once you are an international star everyone around the world knows of you and wants to know more about every single thing you want to do and are going to do!. Some people love being in the spotlight but can't take the side effects of stalkers, paparazzi, crazy fans and everyone knows you!. Drug taking and alcoholism is a way of escaping that surreal world of stardom if only for a few hours!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
