-zach is easily manipulated by logic and gormagon killed people seen as corrupt in society, its logical to remove them
-hodgins drugged him probably so that he wouldn't confess out loud about being the only one to have access to the chemical that caused the explosion and therefore logically only he could have set it up in the lab to explode!.
