Question for debate: The publics right to know is more important then celebrity !

Question: I am trying to find information on the topic of celebrity privacy vs. the publics right to entertainment; and lets face it, celebrities have VERY interesting lives. Look at Brittany Spears for example, she told us years ago that she wasn't "That Innocent" and now she has given us evidence after piece of evidence after piece of evidence to prove her point. She we coninue to be able to dip into their personal business or should we just mind our own and keep it moving?

The public has no right or need to know the ins and outs of everyday life in the life of a celebrity - and their families, especially children - should be completely off limits.

If you were a celebrity, would you want a parade of papparazzi following you home from the hospital when you bring your newborn home or get involved in a minor accident - the kind of things that happen to everybody everyday.

Do I think that Brittany deserves some of the scrutiny she has gotten lately - absolutely. Her actions are bizarre, and I think somewhat motivated by the need for attention. But do I need to know whether she is wearing underwear today - NO! Besides, I really have a hard time feeling sorry in someone with more money than they really need getting into situations that are highly avoidable (that goes for Paris, Lindsay and all the other celubtantes).

I also think that a lot of their behaviors are escalated by the fact that the public is so apparently craving any little tidbit of information or gossip about any celebrity.

Unless they are making a public appearance relating to a current project or actively seeking public attention, they should be regarded as any other person going about their daily business. They should be able to fly on a plane, shop at the supermarket or have a nice meal in a restaurant without tons of people coming up to them asking for photos or autographs and without a media crowd waiting for a photo op. If they are being obvious about their celebrity status and seeking attention, then go for it, but if they are just out doing everyday things, leave them alone.

After all, they aren't different from you and me - they have just been fortunate or talented enough to have gained this "celebrity status".

No, as i don't care about what celebrity is doing what.

They know when they get into show business that theire lives will not be private anymore. It's our business now.

No, the public does not have the RIGHT to know about another person's life. However, celebrities should understand that attention is an essential part to their success, something they should have considered before starting.

hello

i really think that there should be a limit to how far the paparazzi go and they follow Brittney in the bathroom thats way to far you know and yeah we all love hearing about them but
thats why she is doing what she is doing think god she is getting better just like Lindsey Lohan she was the same way and she is getting better to that is until the magazines make up things about them and then they do it any ways never stops

The public has no RIGHT to delve into a celebrities private life. Most of these celebs WANT this attention or they would avoid all the scrutiny. It is a select few who are on the gossip rags everyday.

Disagree. The public does NOT have a right to know every move a celebrity makes...and in some cases, people really go too far. Examples? Recent reports about those hospital workers in L.A. and NY who were snooping through celebrity health records for no good reason other than being nosy... or the case of that fan who accessed records of a singer for the sole purpose of stalking him.

If a person wants to self-disclose, fine...but for the media and papparazzi to go out of their way to be disruptive and intrusive, it's just not right...all because they want to make a profit off the morbid curiosity, jealousies and schadenfruende of a bunch of nobodies posing as fans who have to live vicariously through celebrities rather than develop interesting lives of their own.

Why do people think they have the right to know everything about a person's life? Just because that person is a celebrity or in the public eye? Nope, that doesn't cut it. I wonder how those gossipmongers and papparazzi would feel if the shoe were on the other foot? and they were the ones who couldn't eat a meal in peace? or their confidential medical records were breached?

It's too bad people focus more on celebrity scandals and lifestyles than they do on a celebrity's actual talent or artistic projects. To me, that is the ONLY thing a person should care about a celebrity for... not speculating about if they've had cosmetic surgery or whether or not they are a virgin.

Anyway, I think respect for privacy overall regardless of your perceived status has become less and less in the society...and that's truly a shame.

I think people should be alowed to have their privacy no matter who they are. The only news I want to know about are things that affect me, my family or the world I live in. The personal matters of stars don't interest me at all.

When they enter the entertainment industry I think they are aware that there is no such thing as "privacy" anymore. I actually feel bad for them. I would hate to walk down the street with 30 photographers directly in front of me. I think there are definite limits that the paparazzi cross. I think homes and schools should definitely be off limits. As far as the public's right to entertainment, I could care less what school their children go to or what their address is.
I think there should be a law passed about the paparazzi, they are stepping over boundaries and someone is going to get hurt.

Very difficult question to answer..
I understand that the celebs shouldnt always expect to have the private live kept private but why shoul the public have a right to know.. what business is it of ours.. maybe we should put ourselves in their position.
Britney Spears is an extreme example.. for years now she cant go anywhere without a HUGE amount of papparazzi following here every move.. how would you feel if you had a crowd of cameras following you??
at the end of the day most celebs did not become famous just for getting in the tabloids they became famous for there talents
i mean i've seen questions on this site asking about what people like about britneys music and people reply with ' oh no i dont like her music becuse shes crazy and ive heard rumours about her in the tabloids'
Britneys music is our entertainment not her private life

ps. i didnt mean to go on about britney but i felt hers was one of the best examples and you mentioned her in your question
