I think they are all a bunch of girls that didn't make it big. Jennifer Lopez was a dancer in one of Madonna's videos. She was an exception I guess.
It's pretty effortless once you get the job. You literally just stand there looking pretty. You should have adequate dancing/acting skills and obviously look the part. You have to have connections to get a place on the video, otherwise there's no point of wanting to be one.
