they are said to be because people are dumb and label anything the ''dark'' emo Gerard way the lead singer of MCR says he and his band are not emo in anyway in fact Gerard calls emo a pile of sh*t. people tend to be retarded and dont listen and just say emo because they are diffrent when in fact they are not emo, they hate emo.
Well, people think they are 'too emotional'. And anyway, I looked up the definition of emo and it doesn't fit them. They're WAY too awesome, I love MCR!!!!

Who cares if they are EMO? I honestly don't understand why people get so hung up over the EMO trend, it's just punk rock re-done for the 21st century, big deal. Just enjoy the music if you like it and to hell with what people think because a lot of people out there are ignorant anyway.

Because people thought their music was depressing. Emo was originally a term for music which translated to "emotional [hardcore]". Some people just call them emo because they don't like them, but to me, it doesn't matter what genre a band is labelled. As long as they make good music, they can be a non-existent genre for all I care!
I hate how people hate the scene/emo people in general.Who cares if they were emo or something as long as they dont kill innocent people.

People feel the need to put everything into classifications, especially things that they don't want to be associated with. They call it emo because they don't know what else to call it.
