It was a combination of things. One of them was the death of Brian Epstein. Most Beatle fans hate Yoko Ono so it is easy for the masses to blame her. In actuality she had little to do with the break-up of the group. Apple records was another thing that played a big part. Most of the diagreements within the group had to do with business. I think Allen Klein was the straw that broke the camel's back. This is what really split the group. John, George, and Ringo all signed with him as their business manager and Paul refused. When you have the 2 leaders of the band at opposites on something of that nature then something has to give.

as Paul put it,mostly burn out.It happens to a lot of bands.....oh yes I almost forgot...Yoko.
probably epstein's death - after that paul started trying to take over the business side of things and john didn't like it although george was the first to leave as he was unhappy that his songs were given less attention than john and paul's. yoko didn't help but you can't put all the blame there.
yoko was just the scapegoat. I think it was why all bands break up. creative differences, arguments, jealousy and just when people feel that something has run it's course and want to pursue something new.
Brian Epstein's death left the band at loose ends and they lost their immediate focus. The formation of Apple Records and then the hiring of Allen Klein played a large part, but it was Paul and John who ultimately couldn't put their differences aside to continue with the band.
