They are taking a break for all of 2008. It's mainly because they just need some rest (they've pretty much been recording and touring constantly since they released 'is this it')
Also, this gives Albert Hammond a chance to do a more extensive tour.
I really doubt that they'll put out new material this spring, perhaps b-sides, covers, or live recordings if anything at all. I just really hope they don't break up.
Although a Julian Casablancas solo album would be pretty sweet....
