The problem with doing drugs is eventually your drug of choice begins to lose it's effect and you have to go to a new and stronger drug...that is why so many start with things like pot or hash and then go to strong hallucinagens or start with cocaine and eventually hit heroine...it starts a great rush...fame, power, money...then reality sets in...pressure to stay thin, pressure to always look and act the character's you portray, people following and stalking you 24/7, never having a moment where no one is watching, always being watched...they need a release...they turn to the fastest fix....for younger stars, they want to be and look older, want to seem older...they do what is presented to them as cool on the face of every magazine, and on every tv show and movie...or sometimes it is because they are so busy they just can't keep up, somebody says here take this it'll help and the next thing you know....
What we the audience have to realize is that they are just people...not superhuman...they are just like us they are just talented in their art or where just very very lucky. They are not any different from you or I in their abilities to resist...actually in many cases they are weaker. I am an actor and in my experience most actors are actors not because it seemed glamourous but because they are missing something and they think that the theatre is the place to find it. Many were abuse victims, some were rape victims, most are children from broken homes who just feel like they were neglected...they think that your accalades and applause will make the pain go away because it such a rush...they don't realize it isn't going to fix their problems but it does give a nice vacation to disappear into the role of someone else who doesn't live your life. Because so many have these personal issues we don't know about we don't realize that these people are actually very weak because they seem so strong on screen. In their personal life they are actually starving for attention and crying out for help...the problem is with fame and money come the enablers, the people who will get you whatever you want whenever you want...they don't realize that your diva demands are actually cries for help and what you really need is someone to actually give a damn about you not your character. The problem is no one realizes that they need help until it is too late and the damage is done. It is not a glamourous life, fame. It is sad, and lonely at the top...and just like with any high there is always a crash at the end.
more money than brains
maybe they can't handle the stress, and everybody always watching their every move, and waiting for them to mess up, so they just crack.
it seems fame has a high price! these people live in a fish bowl and are pressured to keep a certain status. Everyone wants to know their dirt and passes off the positive stuff. they are never alone, never private and it must really suck! money buys alot of dope to keep up!
pressure to be better, & they can afford it, just a guess.
i think its the fact that they are so caught up in their job plus reporters at their backs every waking moment causes alot of stress plus the fact they are filthy rich, if i was famous I would be snortin blow and drinkin cervasia everyday too

Celebs aren't the only one using drugs&alcohol. My cousin was previously a drug addict. He's a socialite and he told me as a socialite those things just come as "free flow" at discreet social events. The people having profits from those drugs seem to be very successfull in creating such image that socialites aren't hip enough without drugs. Those things don't come cheap, and celebs are an easy target. Why? in my oppinion because they can afford, and simply because they need a social status, to show they're loaded, to show they're bad ***, or just simply to show they're different from common people. It's a matter of choice when you're having a financial freedom.
Easy, and it begins with stage fear, alcohol makes you more relaxed.
Parties in Hollywood it's common to go from one party to a other for the right contacts and contracts.
