Why do metalheads hate metalcore so much??!
Question: i like bands like devil wears prada, underoath, as i lay dying, a7x, but i also like metallica,iron maiden, megadeth, but my friend who considers himself metalhead says metalcore is gay sh*t

I think most metalheads just want to feel special, and "staying true" to the original forms of metal, the traditional ones, makes them feel good about themselves.
Also, the popularity and the shine of these modern bands is the opposite of the oldschool and vintage feel that traditional metal has, it's supposed to be rugged, independent, while many of these bands feel over-produced, with major-label support and some pop-sensibilities.
As an old-school metalhead myself I actually enjoy some of the current bands, such as Killswitch Engage or God Forbid, but I don't like the whiny, emo vocals bands such as DWP or As I Lay Dying use. I think that even nu-school metal should be rugged and aggressive, the opposite of pop.
whether they intend to or not, metalcore still caters to the general public, while still having metal elements in their music, or even considering themselves metal.
and the general public pretty much ignores metal. we feel that metalcore bands are poseurs, they want the "coolness", so to speak, of being metal, but dont want to give up the record sales and recognition of a mainstream artist...
