Why is it the Yanks...?!

Question: Why is it that the Americans have a much different sense of humour than us brits? It's quite baffling.

Answers: Why is it that the Americans have a much different sense of humour than us brits? It's quite baffling.

You cant generalise, I'm British and I love the likes of Steve Martin, Robin Williams, Jim Carey, Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope ( and I know he came from British stock ) But he grew up in the states from a toddler, Lucy Ball, the list is endless, we get some comic's here I just cant laugh at, there's good and bad in every country, Just keep on laughing at what is funny to you!

Why is it that any other culture has different humour to us? Different media, different views, different lifestyle...different people. Plus it's difficult to generalise the whole of the USA when the size of one of their states is the size of the UK. Plus it's just cause our sense of humour is waaaay funnier!

I don't know, but am having to find out as my eldest son has an Amercian girl friend - sometime she seems to find things hysterical, that I only seem to find is mildly amusing!!

idk really we americans hmmm.... idk but my mom watched the Brit versoin of Whose Line and she didnt think it was very funny.. she didnt really think all of the American version was funny too but still... i guess its the differences in our cultures perhaps?

They are different in all sorts of ways, including humour. I hate it when they copy our TV shows and remove all the jokes - pathetic - they should have more confidence in their own, bland "humour"

I know i think Americans get more involved with celebs than
the UK.....we take it in our stride .

I hate to tell you this but putting all Americans in the same pot is wrong.

There are so many different groups with different senses of humor.

If you make a study of comedians in the USA you will see a regional difference. The big city humorist as opposed to the smaller rural comedian as opposed to the more ethnic comedians. By ethnic I am including Hispanics, African-American who have their own sub types and Jewish one's, Italian ones and many more that I haven't even run across. we even have a Lesbian of Korean descent.

So there are even gender specific and gay comedians.

Some times they talk about things that only people from that background can understand.

So to lump us all together is wrong. There are even people who really enjoy some of your programs when they finally get over here like Monty Python and good old Benny Hill.

In fact a lot of our most popular sit coms over the years were taken conceptually from BBC programs.

They tell stories, we tell jokes and "one liners" Nothing wrong with that, differant cultures.

Lower laughter threshold. They have been watching pure cack for years.

I know!!!!!!!!!

I am american and I love british humour (it is so weird and different than what i hear from americans)

sometimes i get it and laugh but sometimes i laugh because i do not get it at all
