British? How is Johnny Depps English accent?!

Question: In Pirates, does he do it well.
I thought he was good, but I'm American and don't have the ear for it cause its not my own.

What was particularly fantastic about his accent was that he managed to maintain a drunken slur throughout, without slipping into American. Now, that's talent.

Not bad, better than most of them that try!!

I thought he did it very well. I also like his Scottish accent in Finding Neverland, but then I'm not Scottish!

Very good 8/10

Really good, so good that i cant imagine him with an American accent!! I watched him in sweeney todd the other day and he was amazing, good singer too.

I thought it was good too.I even thought he was english lol

I think it's excellent and in Sweeney Todd too. It was pretty dreadful in From Hell but I think he learned from the experience, which is good.

Johnny Depp is one of the most talantd actors. humble kind actors i know and he is so good looking too!!

Hereeeessssss Johnny;)

Yes, he's very good.

1000 times better than most of the awful pseudo cockney efforts we hear!

It's certainly the best English accent attempted by an American.

I didn't hear him say things like - fink instead of think or things likes init, whatever or bovvered! Sadly the English accent is being diluted by CHAV scum so I can't answer your question.

Brilliant. But then Johnny Depp is just brilliant. I'm a bit of a fan, bet you never guessed, I know I hide it well lol

99% of Americans do try but fail, his is not too bad.

Not to bad, sort of mid -Atlantic English but adequate

less grating on the ears than most

is he american?..lol

Pretty darn good, the fact that he copied from Keith Richards implies that it is more of a Keith Richards accent, although English is not how we all speak.

wot was the question . . . . .
sorry im still daydreamin over jus the mention of his name
i fort his accent woz really good cud av bin mistaken 4 a brit!
xx

sorry i dont under stand?

he is french in his origins

Johnny Depps english accent is brilliant.

have u heard it on Sweeney Todd ?

its his new movie.

he sounds so british ! lool

I'm not English, but I think he does a brilliant job with the accent.

Especially in Sweeney Todd. I thought his singing voice was quite like David Bowie's.

I'm from London.
Johnny Depp's accent is OK in Pirates of the Caribbean (not perfect but pretty good. And when he said he'd based it on Keith Richards I thought that made sense!!!).
The worst English accent I've ever heard is Dick van Dyke's one in Mary Poppins (which however is a great kid's movie).

His accent is better than a lot of other american actors who try it.

I don't really think he has a british accent in Pirates, its more like a "Pirates" accent, or should I say, how I presume pirates would have spoken back then. I don't know anyone here who has that accent, but I appreciate how difficult it is to carry on an accent if it isn't your mother tongue, although saying that, I thought Renee Zellwegger's english accent was very good in Bridget Jones - oh and by the way Donna, we look exactly the same (LOL)

i think he does a lovely English accent its very London I'd much prefer him to try a Yorkshire accent now that would acting.

He's brilliant in Pirates of the Caribbean, but not quite so good in Sweeney Todd - but that's just my opinion.( I'm English)

Hi, he has perfected it quite well but I disagree with the above who thought his scottish accent was passable. I thought it was a little off it.
He is miles better than Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins!!!!!

it is lush!

Struth !stone the cows & cor blimey! Such a delightful performance we don't worry too much about the accent. It's just luverly me hearties ! Wot a huge talent ! It's a delightful interpretation of a cockney accent that he is doing & it's extemely consistant throughout the trilogy & he's very on top of it. Every now & then there is a slight fudging of vocal delivery, he tends to swallow his breath inside his throat, pre line delivery which is n't typical of a cockney, as that is a very front of the mouth, teeth & tongue delivery, however great actor that he is, he has worked this into a mannerism of "Sparrow",whether consciously or not I don't know . While each vowel sound may not be technically perfect, his consistency makes it acceptable & believable to the audience. It would be interesting to know how he went about acquiring it, I suspect he's a pretty instinctual actor so probably not a particularily technical approach. What an incandescent performance though, can't wait to see Sweeney Todd.
