Dr. Phil (and his wife Robin) are both children of alcoholics----unfortunately, they both need lots of work with "Al-Anon" to deal with the aftereffects of this, which involves letting go of these pathetic chemical-dependent people (like Britney Spears). He is trying to reform/change/cure drunks and druggies all the time on his program, and tried to do so with Britney Spears, of course. Drunks and druggies are perfectly happy in their "death-wish" trajectory, and no one can change them.
Dr. Phil is a saint, but he can do nothing---no one can.
