Why was Jim Morrison a star ?!

Question: what did Jim Morrison mean to you & why ?

Answers: what did Jim Morrison mean to you & why ?

The greatest meaning that Jim has to me is as a poet. Unfortunately, while he was living, and even to this day he is not accepted as the poet that he truly is. I also think that Jim has a certain appeal to everyone, in a sense that everybody can find something that they like or admire in him. For example, when I was a "tween" I thought, oh he's so hot I want to listen to that music, I want to learn about him. Later on when I began to mature and gain an appreciation for the art and poetry that he created I realized that his looks weren't the important part of him as a human being, it's his personality and intelligence. Some people who like music credit him as the defining force of The Doors and like him for that reason. The "stoners" like him because of his drinking. The intellectuals like him for his art and literature. The teeny-boppers like him for his "sexy" image. The teens like him for the comfort that he creates in the songs. During that time, I think that people liked him because of his "image" and also the way that he could deal with the media. In interviews that he gave were always calculated and intelligent, and his remarks to fans and journalists showed that he really cared, or was interested in him as a human being. As we all know he died in very mysterious circumstances, adding to the lure and intrigue around him.
In short, I would say his poetic talent and charisma made him famous.

Because his music was totally cutting edge!!!

And psychedelic!

And because he died young under mysterious circumtances.

you know what they say...live hard, die young, leave a beautiful corpse...

Not very wise, but some think it's the way to go.

The Doors were a good band and I guess they were riske at the time and he had sex appeal but not a lot of people realize that Jim Morrison died over in Europe an alcoholic and very overweight compared to his rock persona. They're pictures and they're not flattering.

I disagree with that answer. It was not "his" music. It was little contributions from every member of The Doors that made the music. He had this sex appeal to him that drove the women wild and he was a poet. His words drew people to him. That's why I think Jim Morrison was a "star".

Because he was the lead singer of the band The Doors in the 60's. He wrote many of the band's songs that became hits. He also became a bit infamous for his wild and unruly behavior.

I wasn't alive at the same time as Jim Morrison, as I was born three years after his death. But as a teenager, growing up in a hippie family, I learned of The Doors at an early age and quickly learned to love their music. I even had a posthumous crush on Jim Morrison when I was a teenager.

To me, ultimately, Jim Morrison was a poet who was avant-garde...way ahead of his time. I don't think his voice was all that bad either. I was born in the late 1980's so I wasn't around when The Doors were fresh or anything like that, but I think they're timeless.
Not to mention how awesome their song "The End" is in the movie "Apocalypse Now."

He was an ultimate rock poet, no doubt about it...His short life ended dramatically and that's what adds up to his charisma...
and off course, the Doors would mean nothing without Morrison...
