Have you ever shed a tear for someone famous who has died?!

Question: I did shed a few when Charles Schuldiner died... but I'm sure you don't even know who he was. Do you?

Answers: I did shed a few when Charles Schuldiner died... but I'm sure you don't even know who he was. Do you?

When my sister and I were little girls, we heard on the radio that Marilyn Monroe had died. We cried for her because she was this beautiful lady who had such a sweet voice and was so funny. That was something about Marilyn: Everyone liked her, adults, teens and children. That was in 1962.

A year later, everyone would be crying when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated Nov. 22, 1963. We were between classes when a classmate ran in, shouting that the president had been shot and was dead. I recall how we circled him and scolded him for making up such an awful thing. He burst into tears, telling us that he wasn't lying. At that point, our teacher walked in, and I think we knew from the look on his face that it was true. We would receive another shock while watching coverage when Jack Ruby stepped forward to shoot and kill Lee Harvey Oswald. I think those two incidents did a lot to shock us awake to what the world could be like. This is when we started to grow up I guess, the Baby Boomers in particular. Other assassinations followed, and I'll bet a lot of people remember crying over these and other losses, including Martin Luther King, Jr., and Bobby Kennedy.

My sister and I cried again, in 1966, when we heard about the drowning death of Eric Fleming, who had played Gil Favor, trail boss on "Rawhide". We had become fans of this handsome man who had such a wonderful voice; I think we liked him even more than Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood), which was saying something in those days. Fleming was on shooting location in Peru, a fact that I've always remembered for some odd reason. If you watch cult classic sci fi/horror, you've seen him in several films: "The Queen of Outer Space", "Conquest of Space", and "Curse of the Undead" (a vampire Western!).

When I heard that Jim Croce had been killed in a plane crash, it struck me so hard that I had to stay at a stop sign until I felt steady enough to get to a parking place. I've been in love just once in my life, when I was 19, and Croce's "Time in a Bottle" was our song. We didn't get to stay together, so hearing that song has always made me cry. Hearing that Croce had suffered an early death was that much more heartbreaking.

I found information about Chuck Schuldiner several days ago for a questioner:
Charles Michael "Chuck" Schuldiner (May 13, 1967, Long Island, New York – December 13, 2001) was an American musician and genre innovator. He is best known for being the founder, singer, rhythm/lead guitar player and main songwriter of Death, which he founded in 1983 as Mantas, and was one of the first bands of the death metal genre. He played an important role in the development of death metal with his band Death, which later evolved into more of a progressive metal sound. In 1998, he put Death on indefinite hiatus and founded another band, Control Denied. Music biographers have referred to Schuldiner as the father of death metal.

Is that the man you mean? I've heard him referred to as Chuck instead of Charles but suppose it's the same person. People can read about him here:

no and no

nopes i hate cry babies n that applies to myself too so....

I haven't. Wasn't he also part of Death Angel, not just Death?

Two, River Phoenix and Princess Diana. They were both beautiful people that died way too young.

Yes

nope

Yeah, but all death makes me sad. I shed a tear for Heath Ledger today. Just tragic.

When John Lennon died. His music had such an impact on my life. Tragic.

JFK
RFK
Martin Luther King
John Lennon

Heath ledger today made me a little teary b/c i thought about his little baby girl he is leaving behind and what a great artisit he is. It was odd though b/c no I normally dont cry for famous people b/c I dont know them personally but this was a sad day for me and then when I heard that I couldent help but shed a few tears.

Yes. I cried when Michael Landon died, because I loved Highway to Heaven, and Anna Nicole Smith. Her story was so sad, and they kept showing her son who had died.

its a real shame such a cool, talented actor like Heath ledger did die from some drug-overdose and leaving a kid and girlfriend behind.....I cried for the kid, thats just aweful....beyond imagination...she will memory later on through her dads work and movies, she will be soooooo sad, tear tears are falling down right now

Yes I know who he is, a music artist who passed away in 2001. And I have cried because someone famous I knew died. The guy Heath Ledger or something just recently died. They found his body in the Olson's twins apt!! man are they in trouble... but yes I know how you feel. Especially when someone who has had a rather large impact on me has passed away I cant help but shed a tear.

yes,for the woman u may know as "vampira" nd heath ledger...such tragedy..

Yes, when John Ritter died

I cried when Benizir Bhutto died. I was just so shocked that someone could kill such a brave and honorable person.

Princess Diana.

Yes, Frank Sinatra

No I do not know who Charles Schuldiner was. I cried when John Lennon was murdered, and when George Harrison died. I was also very sad when Michael Hutchence from INXS passed on and can not listen to some of their music without shedding a few tears.

no,maybe they not so influence me.. like recently, heath ledger,i dont cry but i was so shocked!! yes,really.. its unbelieveable like what happen to anna nicole smith.. both are really SHOCKING news.. maybe i will when Britney die someday cause i really love her..
about Charles,yeah.. who is he?

Not really. Celebrities are just like us. They shouldn't get special treatment just because they were the lucky few to get their talents shown.

Honestly. The world is horrible these days.

I shed a tear for Jerry Garcia...But absolutely balled for both Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) and Dime Bag Darryl (Pantera) the world lost so much with their passing. Heath Ledger's death is a horrible but all too common tragedy. Oh and Eddie Guerro broke my heart too.

I cried when Steve Erwin died...I cried when OJ was set free.
I cried when john Ritter died.. and any person that I admire
very much. Musicians are rough for me.. LIke when Lynyrd
Skynyrd's plane crashed..it tore me up. I am a sensitive soul
and I care about other people's pain. Crying is healthy...
if you don't cry, you don't have any emotions.. that is a sad
thing to be. If nobody cared...no one would be left on this
planet. Think about it.

Sure. My son says he's known as the "Father of Death Metal".

I was barely an adult when John Lennon died. My then-boyfriend/now-deceased-husband and I cried barrels when *he* died!

I was amazed at how many of the older generation actually knew who he was!

And now? Well, hardly any of the newer generation does.

That just strikes me as odd.

I've heard it said that Britney Spears is skating awfully close to the edge...

What is it with fame and young people, anyway?

I'm not sure who he was..I cried during the JonBenet Ramsay death because I felt so bad for all the bad things that happened to that little girl. I can't imagine what a child that small would have thought/felt. It almost makes me cry still today.

I'm sure this question come up because of the passing of heath ledger...

and yes i have cried when a celebrity has died...

funny enough,

heath ledger

and john ritter (alot of tears for that one)
