If it's a big enough newspaper, they'll probably have a news story with the basic obituary info (his career, relatives, time and place of burial). If it's a small paper, like a community weekly, they probably won't be interested in an obituary. But you can write a letter to the editor stating why this is important to you, and it might be published.
