Why is it when British singers sing they sound american?!
Question: When british singers sing they sound COMPLETELY american, but when they talk they sound british, like natasha bedingfield, she sounds like shes got a huge british accent, and i know shes british, but in the song love like this when sean kingston u wud never think shes british??

the difference is that when you sing, you try to hit notes and harmonize in certain ways, so most of the time you harmonize, you are not in fact speaking words, instead making sounds for syllables. if you notice, as long a you know how to pronounce a word, when you sing it it will sound 'american' as you say.... australian singers are the same, and i even know italian singers that sing perfect english but sound funny speaking it....
it is a matter of producing notes... good singers have no problem sounding any certain way.... as long as they know the language....
most singers in which u can tell they are british is because they arent 'entoning' or making syllable sounds... they are what many people call 'speech-singers' that talk like they sing (i.e. Sean Kingston).... a lot of it is also in the vocal training they get....

I know what you mean. Same with Winehouse and Lily Allen. When I first heard Amy talk, I was like "WTF!!!", cause in her songs you can't tell she's so British. Now that I know, I can hear it a little bit. But I had no idea that Natasha was British! You can't tell at all.
same with an older band oasis. they sing wonderwall, which sounds american, but when they talk i cant even understand them at all. and same with rihanna. she sounds american, but when she talks she has a barbados accent

i kind of know what you mean , maybe its because famous american singers sing pure quality so when brits sing with the same quality they sound american!( im british and there are some quality ,british sounding ,singers )
