I had my appendix out in the 5th grade. It causes a lot of pain and if you don't get them taken out, they can explode and you can die. So, I'm taking it that, they were infected

i imagine he had appendicites. isn't that usually why people get their appendixes taken out?
if you get appendixcides (cides means infeccted), you need to take it out. appendixes are not useful anymore

He was probably sick and something was going on in his appendix and had it removed so he wouldn't suffer anymore.
