Old Johnny Depp fans and his "family" popularity.?!

Question: Does it bother anyone who has been a fan of Depp's and his role selections for years that since the Pirates saga he has found new popularity among the "family" sector who is unnappreciate and most often ignorant of his past roles. I'm triggered to ask by the numerous user reviews of Sweeny Todd explaining how they couldn't believe Depp would involve himself in such a "sick", "twisted", and "sadistic" movie. It seems like since Jack Sparrow came along these people (who form a large percentage) expect Depp to play nothing requiring anything above a PG13 rating.

they're dumb
anyone who is truely a johnny depp fan they know how strange and amazing he really is .. i like his role in the pirates movies dont get me wrong but i love it more when hes playing a crazed story writter in open window or the twisted sick sweeny todd

No.

Well, I myself didn't become a big Depp fan until Pirates, but I decided to check out more of his older stuff, and I am constantly amazed by his versatility as an actor. I think he is one of the rare people out there that can actually get inside the mind of his role, rather than portraying the same cliché character in each new movie he works in.

it does not bother me. i think its good than everybody gets to see what a fantastic actor he is. and if he has not won an Oscar is about time he did.

Why should it bother me? I have liked Johnny Depp since the mid-80's--even the 21 Jump Street days. Now my kids like him. I think the different roles he plays proves what a versatile actor he is. Kudos to him for having such a wide variety of fans!!!!

Johnny Depp is a weird guy, but a great actor. To be honest, Pirates of the Caribbean made his mark to be a well-known actor in the world, but there are other movies I like him in: Jack the Ripper, Sleepy Hallow, and Nightmare on Elm Street. I still can't believe Nightmare on Elm Street was his first movie!

Well I think that if anyone is a true Johnny Fan they appreciate the movies that he's done. I myself saw Edward Sissorhands and enjoyed it. But didn't become a diehard fan till Pirates. But since then I've seen his earlier films and through the interviews I've watched online, He's such an amazing actor and person. He chooses his roles because he falls in love with them. He doesn't want to be labeled a 'bad boy' etc....
If the Johnny fans of today (since Pirates) are true Johnny fans they'll come around eventually and realize what they've been missing.
