I like Patty Labelle, but don't you think she's getting carried awy with!

Question: She screams very well, but lately she's been going up and down the scales and adding too much insincere excitement to even the most simple little songs that people have loved for years in their original versions.

Here's the thing about Patty, she has an absolutely singular vocal instrument. I really wish she would use it on what some of us call...standards.

I especially don't care for the run up and run down and run up again that many black singers seem to prefer. I would prefer they just slightly alter the original music and deliver the standard song. I feel the same about jazz when somebody like Dizzy plays some obscure piece entitled something like a leaf in the breeze or some such. I'd prefer a recognizable piece with jazz verifications.

Dizzy was/is a consummate performer on his instrument but 32nd note runs before the actual note of a song is, in my view, overdone.

Patty does the same with songs admittedly, with her amazing voice.

I can't help but like patty and her public personality; she makes me smile and that ain't bad.

Sort of, I guess.
