Is Jamie Lynn Spears getting pregnant a double standard?!
Question: Does anyone else think that Jamie Lynn Spears is currently part of a double standard? The father of the baby is either 19 or 18, I have heard varying reports. Either way, he is over 18 and she is under 18. I am from New York and in my state if anyone over the age of 18 is caught having sex with a person under the age of 18 they will be thrown in jail, with or without the consent of the person he was having sex with. Jamie Lynn Spears has came out and said who the father was. It seems like the father is being praised for wanting to have the kid and not thrown in jail for having sex with someone under 18. Is this just a typical hollywood double standard or are the laws just different in California?

Please. Celebrities can murder someone for gawd sakes and they walk. Do you honestly think this dude is realy going to be tossed into jail for this? lol, wrong.

Those laws are stupid anyway. Age means nothing...just a number. There could be a 25 year old who has never even kissed a girl and a 16 year old who has had sex 50 times. I tend to think if there is fluff on the muff then she is old enough anyway
i thought the exact same thing when i first heard about this. i am guessing that the laws might be different in california because i doubt they would just let it go because she is famous. who knows...
usually the consent of a minor is 16 and the boyfriend or whatever cant be thrown in jail for it, thats the way it is in most states its the same where i live in wa... so if she gave consent and since she is 16 i think that he cant be thrown in jail for it... i think caili has the same law but im not sure but it sounds like they do

Pretty much the laws are the same in the U.S if your under 18 and have sex with someone over 18 thats bad. But, say your 17 and hes 18 then thats okay. Since at 17 thats the age where its okay. But she is 16 years old.
First off, i do not think this guy should be praised...but i dont think he should be thrown in jail. i mean the law says shes too young to have sex, but shes old enough to know right from wrong. she wanted to have sex with him...she went along with it. he didnt rape her. so why should he be only to blame?
About going to jail...usually a person can only go to jail if the family presses charges. if the spears dont press any charges then hes good to go.

in Louisiana where they are the legal age is 16,so they are ok in every state legal age varies

It's different, the age of consent there is 16 as long as the other person is within 2 years of you, and he makes the cut literally by a week or 2.
I'm from NY and was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately, I think this happens quite often without penalties.
I think at 16, though, she's old enough to know better than to have sex without protection, and it's not entirely his fault.
