Why is Bono such a big deal? wasnt he just a singer?!

Question: He's a singer who decided that instead of counting his millions for doing very little to give back to the world. Bono doesn't do what he does because it's in vogue for a celebrity to tag his name onto a cause. He does it because he's a Christian and he thinks that it would be very wrong for him not to pay something back when he's been so blessed with fame and fortune. If there were a few less jaded assholes in this country people might actually respect that rather than criticize that.

But this is the United States of the Ignorant, where we praise pop stars for being slutty, drunken, drug-addled train-wrecks by giving them endless press coverage while we criticize those who actually try to better the planet.

Yeah, I have never understood that either.

yeah i know. people act like he's a god or something. U2 is a great band, but i don't get the worship

Why is *any* celebrity a big deal? Because the media focuses attention on them and legions of sheepish people become obsessed with them.

Yes, I use to like his stuff then he got too God like and that did it for me.

he is also a political activist and works to promote peace. thats a pretty big deal. going places we wouldnt dare go to make a difference.

I love U2. But the other day I was watching a Grammy special and Bono and The Edge were commentators, or I should say Bono commented and the Edge sat there nodding his head. Bono can drone on and on coming off a little full of himself. I thought it was almost comedic the way he rattled on, expounding fluently on his point and then looked at The Edge and all he had to say was "exactly". I swear he didn't listen to a word Bono said. Maybe he is sick of hearing Bono's voice, I know Bono sure isn't.
