Absolutely. But there are some who fall into the most logical category for their voice. Take Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland for instance. She used to be in 2 bands, Soul Miner's Daughter, and The Jennifer Nettles band. The latter was kind of an Indigo Girls indie soulful band. Some songs even speculated that she was gay.
I'm not sue if she fits as well into country music, but I'm glad she was successful at it.
