He got sick of her spending and treating him like a fool so he put her on a strict budget and she didn't like it.
I think with Brooke getting into the music industry and Linda seeing all the parties and all the "fun" she wants a piece of the action and doesn't want to be tied down. She wants to go out and have fun and be a young adult like her daughter. She wants her youth back.
