the celebrities who contribute the most are the ones who dont usually shout about it, they just do it discretely and privately, eg: cliff richard.
i hate the celebs who come on shows like children in need, asking us to give our money, when they are only there to promote themselves and their latest record/movie/book etc!
Terry Wogan lacks it. He may host all these charity events, but unlike all the other celebrities who do it for free, he demands a huge pay check (10's of 1000's)... worst of all ... he is a terrible presenter!
I suppose Bob Geldof contributes the most (+ Midge Ure) with Band Aid etc.
