Is It Ilegal To Make Fun Of Celeberties?!

Question: If someone makes a parody of a actor or singer(like they do on Mad TV Or Saturday Night Live) Can the celebrity turn around and sue for defamation? I ask because i just heard that Prince is suing a former fan for making fun of one of his songs. He's also suing some mom for putting a video of her baby dancing to his music on You tube. But anyway what are the laws when it comes to making fun of somebody famous or otherwise before it turns in to defamation of character?

Making fun of a celebrity is no different than making fun of the guy down the street.they only want to sue because it makes them look not so perfect in the public's eye.As for using someone's music...yes you have to have written permission from that person's record company because if you start to make money off it then the singer and the record company don't get paid any royalties.
