I read somewhere that Marilyn Monroe wore a size 14. Do you think it's true?!

Question: This is a factoid that some plus size advocates love to drag out from time to time to legitimize their larger size.

However, it's not true.

It's been proven that Marilyn was not, nor was she ever an American size 14. She was indeed curvy, but she was NOT was some would consider overweight ...and she certainly wasn't obese! The size standards back in the 1950s were NOT same as today. In today's sizes Marilyn would've been a size 10 or 12.

I wonder why people are wasting their time attempting to build their self confidence on a long dead actress, anyway. Big girls need to find a newer, more current role model...like Queen Latifah. She is no skinny minny, that's for sure. She's not a size 10 or 12...she won't give the digits but I'm guessing close to size 18 or 20, and she STILL has it going on! So does Jennifer Hudson, Mo'Nique, America Ferrera and a lot of the larger sized actresses of today.

Yep. She was a BBW.

yeah. i think sizes were different back then. And Monroe was not a "skinny" girl. she was always praised for her curves.

I thought it was size 13. I think it is true she was thick woman, that does not mean she was fat. So, I think it is true.

I've heard that too, also a size 16. That woman had some curves on her, they take up space! I hope it's true.

maybe. she was very curvy.

Wish it was like that now! cause that bodytype can be quite sexy.

Its misleading to read those stories because sizing was done differently back then as compared to now. She would not be a size 14 by todays standards she was probably about a size 6 by todays standards. A size 6 is still larger than most of the women considered models or actresses nowadays though.

It may very well be true. Unknown to many there are no standard "sizes". In fact size 7 of today would have been size 12 in the 50's and 60's. You see many retailers find if women beleive they are a smaller size they will buy more and more hot selling fashions... so even as close as 20 years ago, a woman who fit into a size 9 was tall and slim,, today that same woman would be wearing a size 5 or 7 ....

yeah but sizes have changed over time a lot

Yep, and did you know her right foot had six toes?

Yes she was.... The thing is that she had all the curves in the right places, which is why she didnt look THAT big. Someone can be 200lb and be a size 18 and then you can have someone who is 230lb and be that same size cuz of how each persons weight is distruibuted around their body... you can gain weight all over and look bigger or you may just gain weight in you butt and hip and boobs and not look like you weigh that much. It all depends on how and where you gain weight

Yes. Proof that skinny does not necessarily mean sexy.
