At what age is it too old to idolize a celebrity?!

Question: I understand 13-19 even in early 20s for teen girls to scream John Mayer's name...but is it too old for someone in their late 20s to early 30s to be holding up signs saying, "I love you John!" etc.

Well, I'm 46, a die hard Rick Springfield fan of 3 decades standing and not at all ashamed of it! Why should I be? I've met the guy personally on more than one occasion...and I can tell you for a fact that any "idolization" he gets...he has well earned it due to his talent, his philanthropy, his compassion and yes, his still devastatingly good 58 year old looks!

I know for a fact that he has fans worldwide whose ages span from as young as 10 upward to age 70... and we run the gamut from students to SAHMS to pink collar workers to high powered busy professionals, and each of us have one thing in common....we ALL have a ball at his concerts getting as "fannish" as we wanna be.

Strongly admiring a celebrity or carrying a torch for them is NOT sinful or pathological...it's just FUN...and what's wrong with having fun and being able to re-live our carefree youths once in a while? God knows there are so many sad and depressing things going on in the world...and stars and their talent provide a much welcome escape from all that misery. One is never too old. Do you have to put your spirit and libido on "lockdown" and become oh-so-somber and eternally serious just because of the increasing number of candles on one's birthday cake?

As long as a person has a heartbeat, feelings and passions and the will and the discretionary income (after the necessary bills and expenses are met) and as long as one ensure that family and job and real-time friends are not being neglected, then you are NEVER too old to admire talent or beauty in any form...and to demonstrate that admiration in any way you choose... so long as what you are doing is not illegal or compromising the star's well being or security or privacy...or the security, wellbeing or privacy of other fans, for that matter.

It's funny...people don't criticize sports fans or people heavily into other hobbies, regardless of age, so why pick on those of us who choose to admire and lavish our extra attention on specific gifted and talented actors, musicians, dancers or other celebrities...

Why judge those who may have been inspired by such people to perhaps go out and create art of our own, which is why I am a singer-songwriter today because of my favorite celebrity's musical example all those years ago.

Besides, why should you care how old someone else is or if they're screaming someone's name or not? Who died and left you the judge of other people and their behaviors/choices? and whose business is it, really?

So, lighten up...and stop being such an elitist...and an agist.

Any age is too old. After all, "they put their pants on the same way, one leg at a time".
Or, as any one who has served in the Army knows, any one can be replaced at any time. No one is special.

i dont think your ever too old to stop going crazy about someone, but i think after 20 or so you should learn to keep it under control....

yes it seems too old
but it is not our opinion that matters
do not try to tell others how to live

Yeah, I think by the time someone is in their early 20's, they realize that celebrities are only people, just like you and me.

Late 20's and Early 30's is just obsessive

I think that there are different answers for everyone. I have never been the type to scream out celebrity names. I used to see them all the time when I was in South Beach for the weekend. I always felt very odd and silly. So for me its never. I do think that people look obsessive when they scream at celebs, they dont know them. The whole thing seems odd to me. Why would you want to hold up a sign? What is your reason for it? Do you want him to come over to you? Tell you he likes your sign? If that is the case, and that is what you are trying for, you may as well not do it, he probably wont come and talk to you about your sign. That is just what I think.

Any age is too old to idolize a celebrity. What's the point really?

Only, once his pants are on, He makes gold records.

by 25 u need to starting worrying bout ur own **** instead of dreaming or idolizing some1 .. thats wut i think...

"I LOVE JOHNM MAYER", I'm 15, and i'm never going to be too old to love him!!

Its funny how you chose John Mayer....

The celebrities get older, too, and if you really like them, you can keep liking them until you're both in retirement homes.

No a person is never too old to do anything as long as they are able to do it then they wouldn't be too old a person will most likely always feel the same inside.weather they are young are old
