I think she meant well, but at the end she blew things. In Japan, these slaughterings are considered legal (I dont approve of that!!!) and by going into the ocean with a surfboard she put herself in danger and used her celebrity status to call their attention. This could have ended badly, or even in a political problem. I agree with her protesting, but she could have done it another way, and respecting other countries and their traditions (?) She can start talking to congress or Greenpeace and make a campaign or things like that.
I'm not sure if I have the "full" story. I know that she flew to Japan to protest a cultural event they have in Japan. I think it's wrong to "protest" something you know nothing about. In other countries people eat dogs & make coats out of cat fur which they import back to the USA. I love cats & dogs but I don't feel it's my place to fly wherever it is that they're doing that & "protest."
Animals are killed everyday for food. In a perfect world no animal would get slaughtered but that's the way the world works.
I find it really interesting that Hayden "fled" the country quickly so she wouldn't get arrested. She cared enough to cry on the beach but not enough to get herself in trouble for it. Interesting.
Yeah, she went to Japan to protest the slaughtering of the dolphins that Japanese fishermen do each year. Her and her friends went out on surfboards to try to protect the dolphins but the fishermen got really angry. Hayden & friend's intentions were good but they put themselves in a lot of danger by doing that.

I do not agree with Japan allowing fishermen to kill dolphins and pilot whales for "scientific purposes" a.k.a. food. Back in 1992 I went to Japan and visited a sea park where they had dolphins on display. The dolphins had deep scratches on their bodies and were kept in a very small tank. But what upset me the most was that the sea park actually had a restaurant that served whale meat!
It is very upsetting that people generalize and are upset with all of the people in Japan for this awful practice. Not all of the people in Japan consume whale meat. Just be angry at those individuals who do (including tourists) and the fishermen who hunt the creatures.
